I think there was, no clue what it was, I bought from amazon when it had the 5 dollar store credit, now it's up to 10... I imagine S-E must have dropped the price of this game in an effort to boost sales.

Can anyone detail what we'll need to do when early access starts to get a chocobo? Is it story quest right after turning Ifrit in? The one post about it mentions fates and grand companies, so not sure what needs to be done. I'm imagining that'll be the first thing I'll want to do when it comes back up.

On top all the game-play, we also have a pretty good guild forming up. For the most part, it looked like we all ran stuff together where possible, and Saturday's night drunken muble was comedy. As it has been said before, the game is not groundbreaking but playing with the right people puts it over the top for me.

If you do a bit of googleFU theres a guide out there. I'd help ya out but I'm at work. Look for like "Reddit ffxiv linkbook" or something. Some guild posted a huge list of useful links including chocobo.

Grand companies are like factions. Once you pick one (Ul'Dah has the Immortal Flames, Gridania has the Twin Adders, and Limsa Lominsa has the Maelstrom) you will start getting grand company points from fates. The first or second quest you get from whatever faction you pick will tell you to go do fates for points so you can buy a chocobo. It was like 4 or 5 fates in p3. They also sell gear and other things I can't remember.

I should by all rights hate this game. From the slow combat to the cliche quests to the cumbersome UI. However, for whatever reason it is legitimately the most fun I have had in an MMO in years. I was talking to my father-in-law about it (he plays as well) and both of us get a very EQ vibe from the game. The only thing I can think of is the fact that not a lot of information is out there, and no one is really data mining anything. That lack of information is creating some excellent immersion and some "Oh shit" moments when exploring (no real danger, but definitely some "Okay, I just found some level 40 mobs in the same area as level 20 quests...better not explore anymore.")

The game runs amazing. I was fortunate enough to be one of the people that never had any issues. Managed to get Archer and Conjurer to 20 and a couple other classes to 15. I was a little apprehensive about having to rely on fates/leves/xp chains for leveling other classes as I hate grinding, but it really was not bad at all. One thing that shocked me was how much I actually liked the crafting professions. I normally avoid tradeskilling like the plague, it's never been fun to me and if WoW didn't force you to pick up professions for min/max bonuses I never would have bothered. However, I spent a good 4 hours yesterday doing nothing but tradeskills.

I can't wait for release.

It was 1,000 Grand Company Seals (currency) in P3 but someone in Linkshell mentioned it was increased to 2,000 seals for release. Also there was some debate about whether or not Fates were going to still drop seals and I don't remember the outcome of the conversation. You can use Grand Company Leves to get seals, trade in certain equipment / items for them as well.

So how much of what we saw this weekend (First four dungeons, guildhests, Ifrit, etc) were in the game at release of 1.0? What did they change?

As far as combat the 12 pugilist crit buff is a must have since it's only a 1 minute cooldown versus the 3 minutes for archer damage buff. Pink/Green/HQ crafted weapon farming is going to be desired since that's the #1 measurement in power. Materia definitely seems to suffer the same as TOR augments where gear is simply replaced too often until 50.
the archer crossclass ability, straight shot, gives 10% crit buff with no down time. Its a better crit buff than the 12 pugilist one but only the physical damage classes can use it.

Logged into one of my legacy characters today to check out some of the new crafting recipes. Took some screenies in case anyone finds it of interest. I have/had all trade skills at 40 plus if anyone has any questions. Not sure what is/isn't obvious about them to people who didn't play 1.0. As an aside, note the +34 Skill Speed on those crafted legs. Skill speed actually reduces the GCD. Then consider that PGL and Monk get significant GCD/skill speed reductions in their skills. It will be interesting to see what it can be reduced to and if there is a cap.

As an aside while we are discussing items, here's a shot of lvl 15 green and pink items side by side to compare stats. Both are lvl 15 (and actually dropped in the same dungeon). Note that the bonus stats are the same, just that the pink has one additional stat.

Holy fuck. That looks...complicated.

Comprehensive chocobo guide

And for above, does that mean pink is actually better than green? The item level is lower, but it's got more stats (and difference of 1 magic def).

Wonder if these stack.
