    Weather

It wouldn't really be practical to design a house for 6 feet of water pushing on one side of it. Foundations are designed to hold the house up against gravity. If you're pushing it up or sideways, that's pretty unusual and not what the foundation is designed to deal with.

    South Park

I think it's about time to shut down Comedy Central. South Park reruns are the only good thing on the channel these days aside from when John Stewart hosts the Daily Show.

    The Fast Food Thread

I'm a pretty big fan of pickles but this seems like a bit much. Especially the drink.

I love my electric chainsaw too. I have 2 24" blade gas saws but if the little electric can handle the job that's what I am going to use. So light and quiet and it just works unlike the gas saws.

    Home Improvement

I started out with some black and decker stuff that I got as a gift but it was crap and quit working after a couple of years plus the lithium batteries were coming out so I did research and at the time decided that Makita were the best so I bought their starter kit. Now I probably have 20 tools...

    Weight Loss Thread

Another good one is the giant candy bars they have now. They have the regular sized Snickers on the bottom shelf at the checkout and then one front and center that's basically 2 bars that are 80% as big as the regular one and it says "share size" or some shit. If you go to the candy aisle at...

    Weight Loss Thread

Yeah I think you can do too much math with this stuff. When I lost the most weight (60ish pounds over the course of a year or so) I was cycling 60 miles a week or so and also lifting weights etc. I did pay attention to my diet but not that much. I wasn't counting calories or anything...

Science!! Fucking magnets, how do they work?

I can't remember where now, but I think I've heard a story of someone who was stranded in the ocean because their boat flipped over or something and a dolphin brought them a dead seal. Not really what they wanted at the time but it's the thought that counts.

    Household Major Appliances

People shit on Samsung appliances but I bought them because my brother liked his. His are now 15 years old and mine are 10 and they have both been completely trouble free as far as I know. The only problem with mine was when the filter got clogged and I learned you are supposed to clean it...

    The Prepper Thread

Yeah, the only thing I take is for high blood pressure and it wouldn't be great to be without it but it wouldn't be life threatening in the short term at least. My step dad on the other hand, takes blood thinners because his heart is fucked and if he's off of them for more than a couple days...

    The Prepper Thread

Yeah and grocery stores aren't much better. It seems like a lot of food but for most of them they are set up for just in time delivery. What is on the shelves is all they have and without multiple semi-loads being delivered daily, they don't have food. Add to that the panic buying and/or...

    The Prepper Thread

Yeah I think the way I live is just an inherent advantage in this kind of situation. I'm 40 miles from the nearest town, 200 miles from the nearest city of over 100k and 500 miles from the nearest city of over a million. I have a relationship with everyone who lives within 20 miles of me. We...

    Death and... Taxes.

"Relatively low" tax rates are way higher than loan interest rates. No one should really be taking out personal loans from either a bank or their 401k unless it's an extreme emergency. If you're a homeowner you should have like $20k (more or less depending on where you are and how much your...

    Death and... Taxes.

On top of that you're repaying the loan with after tax dollars which will be taxed when you withdraw the money. You're basically trading pre-tax dollars for after tax dollars that will now be taxed a second time. Also, with some plans, you can't make any contributions while you have a loan out...
