Yeah we pretty much just have burger and pizza places, steak houses, and diners. We do have one pretty decent Mexican place and a super basic Americanized Chinese buffet but one of the biggest things I miss from my time living in the city is the restaurants.

Story time. I was actually excited when KFC opened in my town a few years back because I love fried chicken and there wasn't a drive through place in town but it was a KFC/A&W combo and apparently all of the employees were not just drug addicts but actually came to work high and stayed that way...

In one of the small towns nearby the only thing that's open on Sunday night is the dollar store. I tend to be over that way on Sunday so several times I've stopped at the dollar store to get something for dinner on my way home and it's the most depressing experience imaginable. Even gas...

Yeah I'm assuming a full brake job for $500. If he was just doing the pads that's a bit much, but if they come to your house and do it I'd think that would cost a bit more. Not all brake jobs are created equal either. I did the brakes on my F-150 last winter and every fucking step of the way...

$500 doesn't seem out of line for a mobile brake job to me. You don't want to pay it, change them yourself. He might have meant "compress" the pistons. Not a lot of English majors that work on cars.

I didn't know those were fake. I remember kids renting them back in the 90's when I was in high school but I never wanted to see them and I still don't want to watch stuff like that.

Wow, that's super lucky.

At least most machinists are smart enough to use decimals instead of fractions unlike carpenters and mechanics that have to figure out what is between ¾ and ⅞. It probably does make us better at doing math in our heads though.
