I started that on Apple II. Import to France did cost a fortune. Ultima III was priced at around 150$ at the time (1983). Not inflation adjusted, 150$ of then-dollar. But at least it did have a nice cloth map.

Math doesn't work out. Kill/Respawn are $-neutral for the game devs, so the only 1$ they make is when you begin your play session. To afford a $ 10-per-hour payout, they need enough bots THEY operate to kill you (for free) so they can get your $10 before the hour ends.
