Got a question about billboards. I saw in my area I can rent one for $500 a month. Where do you have the giant poster made to be put up? What kind of cost is that? Was considering having a billboard for like 6 months to try it out when I open my business. But then realized maybe the signage costs 2k to make or something.
My company charges me half the rent of one month on a billboard. I spent several days online looking up good billboard basics, talked to a friend of mine that used to work in an ad agency, and then talked to their in-house creative.

The only thing is they say the posters are only good for about 2 months, so if we want to rent the board for longer we should pay for an additional poster to be made. We just rent for 2 months each year.
I"m not sure what you are talking about, but billboard vinyl lasts forever. I had a board up for 1.5 years, and only changed it because I"d changed the design on my other boards (and wanted it to look the same). There was no wear and tear on it whatsoever, the colors weren"t even faded.

I believe you need a billboard up for at least three months to measure the results. Two months isn"t enough. Hell, I have three billboards up right now, and I don"t plan on taking them down. With the billboards in my area running 95% occupied, if I give up a good spot, it could be a 12 month wait before I get back on in that area.

Maybe in the Spring, I"ll go to four, and then every way you drive to the PSA (primary shopping area) will be covered.

Maybe it depends on the weather or something in your areas but up here in the great white north where we have some of the biggest temperature/weather ranges in the nation, they don"t last very long either before being replaced due to weathering. 2 months does seem a bit short though.

Edit:Talked to someone who works in our advertising and marketing department and they replace them every 8 months or so though they mostly use digital boards now.

I should imagine it wholly depends on what the material is made of and the duration it"s intended to last /shrug But who knows. Regardless, that is what we deal with here.

I do agree with having the billboard up longer - and I"d like to, but I don"t get the final decision on that.

I look at it this way, anything less than three months commitment is a waste of money, and I won"t do it. Frequency is important.

Well no, I will disagree there. Remember we are in the tax business - 60% of our business occurs in a 3 month period. It"s most important to get our name out at a certain time of the year.

I would like to (at a minimum) have our board up from Jan 1st until the end of April - so a four month period. And again in Sept/Oct as Oct 15th is when extensions are due. Yeah hardly anyone does their taxes in January, but I"d like people to see our name every day on the way to work, and when they finally do think about getting their taxes done, they recall us.

But it"s a moot point because while I get input on everything, I don"t have the final say /shrug Even with other advertising avenues the bulk of our new clients are referrals (we work hard to have a reputation as competent and honest, who aren"t out to gouge our clients - while everyone around seems to try and do the opposite...) and our business has been increasing at a very nice rate each year so far, so it"s been hard to pry those advertising dollars loose from his fingers
