It's one of the points of criticism of Rogue One. Too much time in the uncanny valley and whatnot ...

I'm gonna be a doubting Thomas on this one going in and it's gonna take more than some impressive trailers to change that (because I know Lucasfilm always lays down
aces with their trailers). Putting a new face to an old favorite while trying to fill in a backstory that doesn't need filling ... hand me my naysayer badge.

i think they realize that and its part of why they are starting with a Han movie. if they fuck up too much it won't have nearly as big of an impact as fucking up, say, idk a Yoda origin story.

What the fuck drugs are you smoking? Nobody would care how bad they fucked up a Yoda origin. Nerd mobs with pitchforks and torches are going to form up if they fuck up Han Solo.

i think hardcore Star Wars fans would be way more pissed at a Yoda one. yeah Joe Blow who has only seen each movie a time or two would be more pissed about Han, but we're talking about the nerdiest of the nerds here.

but that aside, i was thinking more about the story writing side of it, and potentially being stuck with bad canon material. we can all collectively forget about the Star Wars Christmas Special at this point. but if they put it in a theater at this point, its Star Wars canon de facto.

lol this is a money grab? Ya think? Why the fuck do people think these great movies get made? You want moves that aren't blatant cash grabs, have fun watching nothing but shitty indie films, and realize that those would be cash grabs too if the indie film-makers were good.

Disney is going to mine every last dollar out of Star Wars fans. They are going to keep putting these out until every hates Star Wars.

Well we've seen him play the wise cracking, seasoned mentor before in Zombieland. But now it's being reported that they were looking at Christian Bale before Harrelson which makes me wonder exactly what kind of character they're wanting this mentor to be.

Well, but Eisenberg being a total dork was part of the Zombieland formula. As much as I liked the pair in Zombieland, I don't think they would want to cast a young Han Solo in the bumbling-idiot-that-needs-to-get-some-real-life-exposure-role.

No I don't think they would either. At least I hope they don't. And you can have too much of that snarky flavor if you have multiple characters serving it up so that there isn't enough contrast for it to be effective. But the Bale news tends to make me think they have a straighter character in mind than what he played in Zombieland.

Which brings up the question of what kind of character will a younger Han Solo actually be. Han evolved over the course of the OT and into TFA as well. We can't really expect him to be the Han we came to know but just with a new, younger face because that is a slightly different person depending on when you're talking about. So a Han before we were introduced to him in ANH will probably be a little different as well, perhaps in ways we don't expect or worse, want.

That's the problem with these kinds of movies and why they should avoid them. Everyone can project what they think he ought to have been when it's an unknown. You can't clarify that in a way that doesn't lead to some people being disappointed because it turns out that he wasn't the way they always imagined him.

Bring it on Disney. You make good movies, and it'll take a lot to make me hate star Wars.

Of course, that was far from the only mentor role Woody Harrelson has played. Off the top of my head, you also have kingpin and Hunger Games. I'm guessing this character will most resemble his hunger games character.

He's come a long way from Cheers.

He really has. And that was back in a time when it was incredibly easy to become type cast as a TV actor.

If you'd offered me a bet back when Cheers was a current show what he would become the most impressive actor out of that cast I would have jumped on the never money all day long. He doesn't have the biggest range but he's damn good in the roles that he's suited for.

It was kingpin that vaulted him out of his typecast role.
