these two episodes have a ton of meat on them. Incredible amount of stuff that impacts the existing movies, especially R1 and building the importance of the prequels

Another Ralph McQuarrie concept art easter egg in this preview. That droid looks very close to the original drawing for C-3PO.

Yeah they pulled in quite a few connective threads for this one but on the whole it struck me as just OK for a 2-part episode. Maybe too much time was spent wandering around underground repeating "we gotta figure out what happened here" without making it seem mysterious enough. Though most people watching already know so I can see how that would have been difficult.

I got a chuckle out of the sand line but the "he's no Skywalker" kinda made me roll my eyes. Speaking of eyes I was surprised they actually drew Saw with Whitaker's drooping eye. I hadn't noticed that in any of the images they released earlier.

The Rebels seriously need to invest in a translator droid. I can only imagine what Klick-Klack was actually saying. Something along the lines of "you dumb #@$@ the empire murdered my whole race for helping them build a moon-sized space station that can obliterate entire planets. I am not talking about my goddamn egg... does this egg look like what I drew??"

Alan Rickman droid back at Chopper Base is an Imperial protocol droid. He could have translated for them but they never take him on missions. That's why Kanan wanted to take the bug back to their base.

I thought the entire saw character (in Rebels) was making mock of forest whitaker. It was over the top like key and peel had written his part. Forest actually did the voice, didn't he?

These 2 episodes weren't that great, just a lot of dramatic irony. Maybe they'll grow on me as we learn more about what was hidden in there.

Well his character in Rogue One was pretty over the top, in how he performed it. The Rebels version just scaled that back a bit. And yeah he voiced it.

I didn't get that from the movie, but I don't care the argue it. I didn't like his character at all, but I don't think I've ever liked any of his characters. For the record, I'm talking about going over the top on his mannerisms as an actor, not how extreme the saw character was.

Yeah I was talking about the same thing. He way overacted in Rogue One, even for a character that was supposed to be on the verge of deranged. That did translate into the animated character as well with his voice acting. Maybe the animation itself toned it down a bit for me. I dunno. It just didn't seem quite as pronounced. I'm not crazy about him as an actor myself.

Pretty much another filler episode this week but an example of filler done right by putting in just enough relevance to the broader story to give it some meaning beyond giving Zeb a little love. I got a little laugh out of AP-5's line about thinking Zeb didn't have much of a purpose on the base since that has been one of the fan criticisms about the character.

That countdown clock in on the droid's chest had to be a nod to Predator.

Preview of next week's episode lays down some Darksaber lore:

it was pretty cool seeing that droid design utilized from the old McQuarrie stuff, and how they actually expanded on it in battle mode. but yeah, that was a pretty meh episode.

Another McQuarrie concept design has been a part of the show from the beginning; Zeb. He's based on the original drawings for Chewbacca.

Sooo... did Dave Filoni always have in mind a larger story arc for Sabine? I must say that between Clone Wars and Rebels the Mandalorians have really been fleshed out quite a bit. Naturally they distilled what worked from the old Expanded Universe and then replaced what did not, but it would be nice to have some elements of this tie into the movies other than Boba Fett.

I don't know for sure but if I had to guess I would say he probably did. They put together an ensemble cast of characters with the intention, or at least the hope, of the show running multiple seasons. Part of doing that is to include characters that you think are compelling enough to explore their background or create arcs for them that will allow you to fill out the series. And they know how popular the Mandalorians are with many of the fans.

If you have Time Warner cable tonight's episode is already up on demand.

It's good. Not the best one ever as some have suggested but really good.

Not a lot of action or any reveals but you'll know Sabine better by the end of it and see some interesting exchanges between her and Kanan as he explains the particulars of fighting with a light saber to a non-force wielder. They could have probably filled this out to a 2 part episode without much effort if they had wanted to (Bendu makes a rather odd appearance, almost as if to just remind us that he is still around) that would have been better than the Ghosts of Geonosis.

One criticism I have is that Sabine really needed to have been older for what they have built her up to be in the series. She's an extremely strong member of the team and everything that they have crammed into her really requires someone over the age of 18 or 19 to be convincing.
