Got Arcanum Unbounded for Christmas. Really enjoyed it. Had to skip the Elantris chapter because I haven't yet read that book.

That said, the rest was good. I really want to see more of the Sand Masters. Was neat to have a graphic novel in the middle of the book. Just wish the ensuing chapters had expanded on it, rather than just tell it more thoroughly.

I really like Brandon Sanderson. He writes at an uncanny rate and is ambitious with his vision for the cosmere. Can't wait for the next Stormlight book!

10 months... yeargh. Cant make it through Mistborn after starting with stormlight. Feels too bland.

I must be the only one who really enjoyed Mistborn lol. I think the new Mistborn stuff is really amazing as well, and I am definitely looking forward to the scifi Mistborn stuff down the road.

I will say though, I'm really sad there isn't any full blown mistborn/feruchemists running around. I do kind of expect to see something like that in the third book though

I think that is what they are building up to. I have enjoyed the Mistborn series also. The Wax & Wane stuff has been really good and I look forward to how he takes into the future world stuff with space flight.

The 3rd mistborn series will take place in a 1980's time frame and the big bad will be a mistborn serial killer. At least that was the plan Brandon had laid out if I recall

I might have some qualms putting this guy in the same tier as GRRM or Erikson (at least in terms of character development/interactions), but I can't remember any writer, in any genre as open as Sanderson with his fans, and as active as he is in terms of keeping his readers engaged and aware of what he was doing. This just posted to reddit, hope the edits get wrapped up quick!

Hey, all! Back again to talk about the progress of your book. I promised you updates through the year, and I'll do my best to pop in here now and then and let you know how things are going.

Oathbringer, if you somehow missed the update last month, is done. But it's not DONE done. I turned in the rough draft, but immediately jumped into the third draft. (Because I did the second draft at the same time as the first--basically, after finishing each section of the book, I jumped back and revised it before sending to my editor. The goal being to get him a second draft to begin editing so he could work at the same time I did.)

I've finished Part One and Part Two of the third draft as of today. This included adding in two interludes, which I hadn't finished in the rough draft. Later today, Part Two should be going to the beta readers.

(To answer the inevitable question, the beta readers are chosen by Peter--my assistant and editorial director--from among those who have been very active on the fan websites, or who know us personally.)

I'll jump into the Part Three revision soon, then will do Parts Four and Five together. That will get us through the 3.0 draft.

4.0 and 5.0 drafts will be done together, hopefully in March/April. 4.0 will input beta reader comments and writing group comments, and 5.0 will be the polish where I try to trim words and perfect the language.

We're still in the early stages of the art, as Isaac was busy last fall with the Mistborn Leatherbound and doing maps for Tad William's new series. So we'll need to work hard getting artwork done. Plan is to have a new set of colored endpages for the hardcover of the US edition, as we've done in the past, though I can't announce what those are yet.

Book is looking great so far. Part One needed a heavy revision at the intro, but nothing more than that. Part Two (the slowest of the parts) remains a bit of a questionable area. The only way to speed it up is to cut some fun, but ultimately flabby, chapters. I think they are chapters people will love, as they have some unusual viewpoint characters, but the have a bit of an interlude feel to them. If Tor puts its foot down on length limits for the book, I'll have to cut these out.

Part Three has some larger revisions I've been planning with Peter these last few weeks, so the 3.0 draft on that might take a little longer than the other two did.

Anyway, it's exciting to see the book coming along! November release date is looking very good, and I doubt we'll miss it. Also, my Spanish publisher contacted us with the hopes of trying to do a translation and get their edition out at the same time as the US/UK editions, which would be a first for any of my books in translation. So a big thumbs up for them.

Thank you again for your patience. Hope to see some of you in Boston next month, where I'm guest of honor at a convention. Otherwise, I should be mostly nose-to-the-grindstone, as my travel schedule is very light until I head off to Germany (and maybe Poland and Bulgaria) in March.

I put him miles ahead of GRRM. Sanderson gets better with every book he writes, while GRRM is the complete opposite. There is zero chance that GRRM even finishes his series

Agreed. While Erikson is probably my favorite author, I'd put Sanderson up in that tier with him. When Erikson is good he's unbeatable, but there have been chapters that I really had to force myself to power through. That doesn't ever happen with Sanderson.

Really, Sanderson would pretty much have me permanently on board based solely on the magic systems he comes up with (I'm a sucker for a good magic system); the fact that he's also a legitimately good writer is just icing on the cake.

There are some youtube videos of him giving writing lectures at BYU including his discussion on magic systems in writing:
It's a little long but i enjoyed it.

I enjoyed it as well. Good find! I found it really interesting that he is a charismatic guy, and his writing is also very interesting. I wonder if there is some connection there.

It's probably is for him, but i don't think it's necessarily a common combination with most storytellers. I can't imagine Brandon acting like Rothfuss has with his fans.

Snapshot comes out today (the 17th). This is a mystery thriller kind of book I believe, and already got signed for a movie iirc.

Yeah, I looked him up and came to the conclusion I won't read his books.

Anyway, I've been listening to Way of Kings on audible. So good. I read the book when it came out years ago, but lost my copy. Anyway, I recommend the audio book. 45 hours long but this is the sort of fantasy that doesn't make you roll your eyes. It makes you believe.

So I finished Snapshot, it's pretty short, like 2 hours. Interesting concept. Nothing too special, but a decent read. It'll probably make an entertaining movie

Yeah, i have the audiobooks for both the Way of Kings and Words of Radiance and really enjoyed them, the narrators did an excellent job. It's the same pair who did the Wheel of Time books.

Is it worth listening to the Wheel of Time books? I read through 6 or 7 of them when I was in highschool, but I just don't have the time nowadays to finish reading the series.
