Let's see real gaming benchmarks. There's a lot more to a desktop platform than just MIPS. Games aren't built for 8 cores, and the HEDT chips they're comparing to weren't good for gaming (for the price) either.

They're definitely going to be insane value for high end video editing/graphics workstations though.

You can't upgrade from Vista.

Yes you can, well, a round about way, that is... I had vista on one of my older machines with one of them upgrade to win 7 discs from college for $25. So there is a round about way to do it, its that you need that win 7 upgrade disc.

But honestly what I would do is just pay the damn $50-80 for fresh win 10 install and just do it. You can probably get a legit code from reddit for like $30-40.

And yeah the AMD thing can be nothing than good for the industry at the most stagnant time ever for the past decade. Not everyone buys PC for just games. There is a slew of hobbyists, artists, business, CAD, photography, video, that will jump over for the price vs performance.

Was all ready to pre-order my dick off today, but think I'll wait until March just to see more reviews kick in and what the other versions of the chip bring.

My first was P4, I think, but I did build a couple of AMDs back when they first came out with the 64 bit procs. But that was for like one or two generations. Then the core 2 duos and the quad core Intell came out and left AMD in the dust.

nVidia with a very not subtle countdown to the 1080 ti reveal on their site.

Timing is actually good for them since they can capitalize on everybody wanting to build new systems with Ryzen.

My next computer will have quad channel memory.

Why doesn't Ryzen have quad channel memory.

I am still wanting to build a system to VM for the kid's systems instead of them having a full system in their room and really looking at Ryzen but not sure how AMD does with virtualization.

I am really just hoping for people selling off Intel systems for cheap on r/hardwareswap so I can build this up.

I grow weary of intel, and granted my system has no reason to be upgraded, i cant help but want to build a PC w/ the 1800x(which sold out on amazon and newegg quickly). I dont even care if its not optimal for gaming comparatively(if thats the case) im just glad that i can have another option to go with. My early personal builds were all AMDs with old school Geforce MX cards, so this is just a return to what once was.

So let me get this straight. You'd buy AMD (even if it's worse) just because it isn't Intel
