As others have mentioned, aspirin is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medication -- the same type of class of naproxen/aleve (the difference with aspirin is it is an anti-platelet aggregrator, taking longer for blood to clot). Chronic use of these medications MAY lead to stomach ulcers and...

I think if all of our patients had continuous glucose monitors, most of our patients who come in with diabetic ketoacidosis would not actually be coming in. Are they expensive?

Randomly spiking to 120 at rest is not good. You could eventually go into a condition called paroxsymal supraventricular tachycardia - that or an uncontrolled AFib. If a patient tells me their heart does that at rest, you bet your sweet ass there's likely going to be a holter/ziopatch monitor...

Watching this with my hubby who was confused at the beginning with GoT and this is no different. The different timelines makes it confusing for him to figure out. After episode 2, I had to surmise what was going on, the importance of Frennefer and the girl in the woods. I'm loving it. Hopefully...

It's not a *great* sign that your resting heart rate is almost tachycardic (>100). It could indicate sleep deprivation, dehydration, or other electrolyte imbalances. On the flip side, it could also indicate your heart may be going into a dysrhythmia. Keep an eye on it. Your doctor may put you on...

Yes and no. If you drink 4 hard drinks every day and you stop, you will go through withdrawal. Things like beer or 4 glasses of wine (that's kind of a lot every day) not so much. The truest answer though: if you're asking, YES IT IS TOO MUCH.

Last I checked, surgical correction for an aortic aneurysm is not until >5cm or otherwise symptomatic. However, depending on the location of it, I would be all for it. Just like with sildenafil, you have to have your MD request, "Take one or two pills every 4-6 hours as needed for pain not to exceed x amount/day," if you do this, you will get your full quantity.

Curious what tests they ran and what tests they are going to run today. If she had a syncopal episode, she may have a treadmill or dobutamine stress test. Though, I still think it sounds more like a seizure than anything.

Uh, that sounds more like a seizure than hypoglycemia. You sure she wasn’t postictal? I’ve never heard of “reactive hypoglycemia” - I have heard of hyperinsulinemia where the pancreas can create too much insulin. I’ve also hypothesized (who knows) that chewing gum can cause initial hyperglycemia...

Difficult to say unless I have a more clearer picture of your health. What does your primary care say about it? Any referrals to nephrology or hepatology? Blood pressure cuffs are great as long as they are upper arm cuffs (which are hard to put on oneself). Radial and leg cuffs can greatly...

Learn something new every day! 600mg of aspirin is quite a bit...but, I can understand the desire to prevent cancer in that area. If you (do) decide to go that route, keep an eye on your stools to make sure there's no blood in it (dark red, black, or bright red) as we often get patients for...
