saw this last night and loved the period aspects, love all the cars and streets and clothes and guitars, cool 60s vibe.
i didn't really find much of a story though, i don't really know much about Bob Dylan and after the movie I really still don't know anything about him other than he seemed to just hate being told what to do? I don't really understand his relationship with Joan Baez or what exactly he revolutionized in American music. It felt more of a concert movie than a biopic. I guess I kinda understood that Dylan wanted to be famous then felt trapped by it but he never really talks about it so its hard to piece together what he really thinks.
Edward Norton did kill it as Seeger, I don't really know anything about him either but I got a lot of character out of that performance, and could see how he was so conflicted about wanting to change the world through folk music but also felt lost in the new world the next generation were building.
The music performances were really the highlight and really fun to watch. I guess if you go in expecting a biopic that just allows you experience Dylan the way fans would have in the 1960s when he broke out its great, but its not the kind of biopic that tells you the why.
