Deus Ex is the greatest game of all time and probably more true to life/relevant than 1984. Basically the entire game is like that clip, unfathomably based. Also has a good twist your initial play through.

Deus Ex Invisible War is pretty meh. Severely dumbed down and limited in scope compared to Deus Ex due to shitty fucking consoles.

Deus Ex Human Revolution is pretty good though you can tell the people who would have preferred to make something else.

Deus Ex Mankind Divded is not a Deus Ex game. Developers went completely down the "we didnt want to make a Deus Ex game" path. I stopped playing this after 2 hours because it didnt feel like Deus Ex.

Deus Ex - Never played it, pretty roundly agreed upon to be worth playing.

Deus Ex Invisible War - Never played it but know it's meh, every time I've asked this question in the past I was always told that IW wasn't worth the trouble. Avoid.

Deus Ex Human Revolution - Very cool game from the era of MGS4. Takes place earlier than the original and is lower-tech, IIRC, if you want to play it first as a prequel or something. Worth playing.

Deus Ex Mankind Divided - Basically just a shooter and not a great one. Considering the pedigree, it's one of the dullest games I played in the last five years or so. Avoid.

So in short, play the original, play Human Revolution before it if you're interested enough in the concept that you'll get through both.

Got a question of my own: What's the best way to play Deus Ex at this point with some sort of modern QOL / visuals? Cause I really need to put it on my "CRPG list" and check it out.

DX1 is in my top5 pc games of all time. If you can handle aged gfx (WTB non-woke remaster) and haven't played it yet, do eeeettt (all endings, of course! :p).
DX2 (invisible war) I never finished, they've changed too much from the original, also UI didn't feel right and was annoying.
Newer DX games, I did play them all and they were good for the most part, but I hated them at the same time. Couldn't stand the main guy's throat cancer voice, and too much emphasis on stealth. Sure, you could blast your way through but you'll get less xp and that sucks if you want to minmax your build and you just end up being annoyed or frustrated.

Don't think more needs to be said about Deus Ex, but I'll add that I played it about a decade after it first came out and it held up and sucked me in without issue. Skipped Invisible War.

With respect to the modern games, do you enjoy immersive sims like Dishonored, Prey, etc? If so, you'll enjoy both Human Revolution and Mankind Divided--they're a bit more linear, but still heavily reward deep level exploration and trying out alternative paths/solutions. Lots of movement/strength enhancements that change your ability to interact with the world and open up new options.

Human Revolution biases a bit more towards stealth, and amigo amigo is right that the XP gap between stealth and gunplay is just ridiculous. During major set pieces the game has one of the best dialogue 'combat' systems I've ever seen, where you have to listen to the actual content of a person's argument and then choose a response that directly addresses their point and avoids logical fallacies.

Mankind Divided probably overcorrects a bit towards gunplay (and weaker story), but definitely not what I would think of as a traditional shooter. Also, a ton of the immersive/exploration elements are built into the hub worlds you visit, so if you rush through those from mission to mission without exploring, you're missing a ton of the content.

A remaster of Deus Ex is something I really wanted for a long time, but if we got one now, I'm about 100% sure it would heavily censor a lot of the "based" stuff mentioned above. The only thing in that entire video that'd be left in would be the part about the tyrannical government rounding up immigrants.

Deus Ex Mankind Divided had a lot of vents to crawl in. If crawling in vents in your thing, that's your fucking game. The whole thing is basically finding vents and hacking things to open more vents to get to places filled with more stuff to hack. There's this one bank where you can basically spend 10 hours just crawling in different vents looking for office computers to hack.

I played for 25 hours and didn't come even close to finishing it.

The first game was good, but half the internet decided to make it their entire personality while calling themselves skeptics.

The second game basically doesn't exist.

The third game is very good but not great.

The original Deus Ex is probably one of the greatest games ever made and is the only worth playing out of all of them.

I played the original from start to finish probably about 10 times since there are a lot of ways to play based on your style and how you spec your character (stealth, assault, hacker, etc)

Lies. The only way to play the first game is to spec for max speed and dragon sword everyone to death.

I got most enjoyment out of it with being a hacker/sniper/stealth player

I was still finding new vents to crawl through after a couple playthroughs

Thanks. I have a 6 year old Lenovo t420 laptop I may have to bust out for this. Does this game play better with mouse and keyboard or controller?
