I don't think we'll ever know who the real one is, but they make a good case.

A pair of North Carolina siblings claim their late father is the ever-elusive Boeing hijacker DB Cooper after allegedly finding his parachute hidden in their home, according to a new report.

Chanté and Rick McCoy III claim their father, Richard McCoy Jr., was the infamous fugitive who disappeared when he leaped out of a Boeing plane with $200,000 in cash after taking passengers and crew hostage in 1971, the Cowboy State Daily reports.

The siblings said they waited until their mother’s death in 2020 to come forward, fearing she could be implicated as the parachute that allegedly belonged to Cooper was found in her storage stash outside the house.

After her death, the siblings met with aviation YouTuber Dan Gryder, who has seen the parachute and believes it’s the very one Cooper used in 1971.

“That rig is literally one in a billion,” Gryder told the local outlet about the unique parachute he saw.

I don't understand these elaborate criminals. Why not just go scam old people or something?

wasn't the biggest issues that the Feds assumed the hijacker died and therefore they didn't really investigate many living suspects at the time

They did a thorough investigation. I think the key thing is they searched the wrong spot on where they thought he landed. I think by the time they figured out the where the correct spot was it was too late.

Stupider things have happened, but if you had a super-custom parachute that could possibly link you to the crime, why would you keep it all these years? A fucking burn barrel is more than enough to make it so that no one would ever know.

Without reading anything but what was posted here, it is more likely that all those people are in on some sort of scheme for popularity or something. I'm not saying they are, but it seems more likely than someone like DB Cooper pulling off this crazy fucking heist and then keeping a massive piece of evidence around. The guy doesn't strike me as stupid.

I understand that but they were still investigating with the premise that he died and that was why this guy was never given more than a cursory look even though he looks just like the composite sketch (also he was 28 and people estimated DB Cooper to be in his 40s)

Their eyes look nothing alike.
you have to remember composite sketches aren't going to be dead ringers and people often give completely conflicting results in their memories - also Cooper wore sunglasses during most of the heist so they will obscure the eyes and likely throw the nose off. But the head shape, ears, and chin line up. Hell his kids said the composite contributed to them thinking it was him

I realize that. But they still look like completely different people. Theyre not even close. What are you looking at? That the drawing has slightly prominent ears? In a police sketch that dude's ears would have been exaggerated, not minimized. Eyes, chin, hairline. Pretty much everything but his hairline are different.

Cause eye witnesses to a skyjacking are known for the cool, calm, and well thought out descriptons after the event.

Having said that "if" it is him should be some records or change in quality of life that didn't match his income. Of course that was all back in cash and very few reporting bullshit days.
