Hey bros, just kind of venting, but would appreciate any thoughts anyone had. 41/m in Oklahoma City, laid off in late October and have had very few interviews since. Historically, I've had a very high rate of going to interview to offer, but have had 2 recruiters ghost me after my interview and feeling down. I know the market is tough at the end of the year, but just still feels bad.

I have a bachelor's from OU in organizational leadership. Have roughly 12 years of outpatient clinic management experience, some single site, mostly multi-site. Some account management stuff. Before that, retail sales management. I've seen layoffs for that kind of middle management role in healthcare happen a few times at least locally and wonder if it makes sense for me to pivot into another career.

Being in healthcare, I do see that we always need nurses so I've considered going to get my RN. Also looking at a rad tech. Being in my 40s, I'm hesitant to take on anything that would take too much time like a NP/PA.

Other area I'm thinking of is something techy. In healthcare, I always enjoyed working with our data team and asking them to pull something I wanted to see so I could make a plan to address whatever issue I had discovered. So not sure if that's more of data analyst/engineering/scientist.

Lastly, I had considered in just sticking it out, and hope the market gets better locally, maybe get my PMP if I can knock that out quickish, or consider doing an online MBA. Anyone have thoughts on PMP if it's worth it?

I'm pretty much open to the idea of anything right now. Would appreciate anyone's thoughts.

RN can be a good but tough job I think. Male nurses iin my experience tend to be a lot more chill than their female counterparts. I will add that, as I'm sure you have encountered, there are a TON of former nurses out there that decided they didn't want to be a nurse and now LARP as middle management so there may be a degree of dissatisfaction with that career but idk

CRNA is probably the best job in the entire country currently but I think it probably has a relatively longer path.

I would not want to be an NP personally.

Fuck that. I guess it takes a certain type of person and Im not one of them. I could not deal with the gore, the shit, the puke, the piss and everything else that job entails. The gore not so much but all the rest I just couldn't.

The nice thing about nursing is it's pretty flexible as far as there are tons of different nurse jobs out there. You can find one in the OR that only has the gore and less so the shit and piss!

*I am not a nurse and only speaking from outside observation

Ever thought about consulting? You'd probably find a spot in Healthcare process or management verticals. Look for Deloitte or Accenture roles.

Your age also suggests we were at OU at the same time. Did you ever hit up Mr. Bills for dollar drafts?

To take the ferry cost a nickel, and in those days, nickels had pictures of bumblebees on 'em. Gimme five bees for a quarter, you'd say!

My sister is a nurse and she said that male nurses are in high demand, because, well, they are male and can man handle more stuff.

Can't help much with pmp advice, but I've gone through the misery of job searching plenty. I've also done it from the hiring end, too.

Let me tell you brother- sometimes getting passed over for a job has absolutely nothing to do with you or how you performed in the interview, so don't let it get you down. There are a ton of reasons you might get ghosted:

1. They already know who they want to hire but are required to go through a public interview process anyway.
2. The job you applied for got canceled or postponed, or they decided to hire one person instead of two, etc.
3. They were specifically looking for a female and you're a male- or any similar demographic mismatch.
4. You had the bad luck of applying in the same candidate pool with some super uber overqualified asshole who has the exact resume they are looking for.

The list goes on. Chances are you are never going to know exactly why they opted to go a different direction, and in the end who cares? Their loss! For all you know, you dodged a bullet and avoided a shitty employer.

The WORST thing you can do is take it personally and let it lower your confidence. It was a business decision and it didn't work out- it happens! Brush up that resume a little more, practice your interview techniques, and move on to the next interview- that's all there is to it.

CRNA is as much schooling as a PA/NP You need your BSN and then usually most programs require around 2 years as a critical care nurse in an ICU or similar. Many nursing programs are LPN to RN so you can immediately start working as an LPN while going finishing up your RN after 2 or 3 semesters. You can start working as a CNA or something like a hospital phlebotomist/lab assistant and get plenty of patient interaction while in nursing school. CNA requires a cert that's like ~ 100 hours of training total. Phlebotomy often requires no certification, but may require one depending on where you want to work. Often jobs will give or pay for said training. Health care is understaffed across the board so it's generally not that difficult to get a job.

My mom was legitimately crazy, diagnosed paranoid schizophrenic and I dealt with her my entire life, minus a few years where she decided to completely disappear. I often was needed to restrain her. Never once did I "beat her up".

Do you actually believe the fictional narrative that exists in your head? This severe case of retardation you have is the one line of reasoning that concurs with you being female.
