This technically doesn't come out until Friday, but they showed it a few days early, probably because we're in Hawaii.

It was a pretty good movie. There's no chance this is going to take the throne from Frozen as far as most watched Disney films, but it was good none the less.

When it comes to the music, my favorite was probably the "gold crab" and his little rap thing. The rest worked, but it wasn't my thing.

My daughter loved this. It has a small "girl power" type of vibe in a sense that The Rock decided not to complete the mission, so instead the girl tries to do it on her own. All in all, a very good movie. Take your kids or your girlfriend. You'll enjoy it. Plus, the visuals are stunning. Disney's animation (well, CGI) looks fantastic.

Here's the gold crab song:

Saw it was by the zootopia people/director or whatever and didn't want to even think about going... zootopia was libtard child indoctrination with a raging hard on, it was bad.

I don't mind girl power...even if that's all we are getting since Frozone came out. But in a light that it makes sense, is not hamfisted or heavy handed and is not the single narrative of the film. What also struck me as this may be one of those films is they always have to force the "and introducing whatever her face is as Moana!" that's as bad as when they pushed whatever her name was as Precious...like the actor/voice person is an additional vehicle of their "message"

to be honest, disney has been pushing out girl power movies for awhile now. For people (the main voice actress...she said this) who are saying this is like first indigenous movie is lying to themselves and completely forgot about Lilo and Stitch.

I could give you an overall breakdown of the movie, but it was a decent enough film. The biggest thing I thought about, though, was the music. There was nothing "great" during this movie. As such, it wouldn't have the mass appeal of Frozen.

That, for example, was this movie's "Let it Go". It's tolerable, but in no means something that will even sit on the charts.

I got dragged to this movie by my girlfriend's family. It turned out to be a decent movie. The artwork is phenomenal.

And Pocahontas...

If it was the interview I heard. It was the typical NPR interview which has zero substance.

Fun fact: This film is titled Vaiana in several european countries because Moana is a trade mark owned by a perfume company. HAH! Karma for the Mickey Mouse clause?

My daughter liked it which really all that matters in the long run. I'm (as well as pretty much everyone else on this forum) not the intended audience.

Yeah, same. I thought the songs were shit, but my daughter keeps singing them. I didn't realize she absorbed them that much. They must also play them on the radio or something.

Yeah, that's probably pretty accurate. For what it's worth, Hawaii wasn't in the movie until the very end. The green goddess chick became the big island.

A good portion of the soundtrack was made by Lin-Manuel Miranda AKA nascent poet laureate of the USA. He has a way of crafting songs that just creep in and get stuck in your head. I saw this and thought the music was decent but not Frozen-worthy; then in the last few days I've found myself drawn back to YouTube to listen to a couple of them more and more...

"We Know the Way" will absolutely be nominated for an Oscar for Best Song just because no producer will be able to resist doing a song that includes both Samoan language and Lin-Manuel Miranda on the stage.

Really enjoyed this movie. I felt it may have lacked a little bit of flow and polish towards the middle of the movie but it started strong and ended strong. I have two sons so the Frozen stuff doesn't quite impact our family as i'm sure it does anyone with daughters but I like Moana better but I can how it would fall short in many people's eyes as Frozen was a little more solid as a movie. I loved the music.. incredible soundtrack and the Rock did surprisingly well throughout the whole movie. It's not a Pixar quality story, it's probably not going to steal the hearts of Frozen fans but I think no one would be disappointed.

Side note... how awesome was the short? One of my favorites.
