I heard this segment too and the first thing I thought was "Why?" After the segment had ended my question had refined itself to "Why the fuck?"

I can understand why a man would want to do it, what I don't understand is why so many other men want to gather and watch him. Besides for the he slips and dies thing, but even that why would you want to watch it? At least with NASCAR shit explodes. This would just be a dude screaming as he plummets to his death.

And it's not like they're going to get to see that anyways. The Discovery Channel is going to have it on a10-second delayfor a reason.
Well, if he falls, they have to show it or it isn't worth watching. It isn't worth watching at all unless he falls really. They don't have to show him splatter, but they have to show him fall and that moment of terror on his face and him desperately grasping at the line as he falls. That is the only thing that would redeem this. That 2 minutes YouTube clip.

Meh, he won't fall. The cable is 2 inches thick for one, so it's not like he's walking across a teeny little rope. For another he's been doing this shit since he was 2 years old, and sometimes in terrible conditions with high winds, rain etc. The bigger danger is him getting zapped by lightning.

Apparently though this stunt is bullshit, since it's not actually the Grand Canyon. It's the Little Colorado River Gorge:http://www.cbc.ca/news/world/story/2...nd-canyon.html

"Mr. Wallenda needs to buy a GPS or somebody give this guy a map," said Milton Tso, president of the Cameron community on the Navajo Nation. "He's not walking across the Grand Canyon, he's walking across the Little Colorado River Gorge on the Navajo Nation. It's misleading and false advertising."

Has anyone actually failed and died doing a daredevil tightrope walk?

I didn't realize that video I posted was actually Nik's great grandfather.
