Looks like it will be good, but pretty obviously depressing. Also looks like a prequel to Clavell's Shogun.

Silence

Second Oscar-bait movie for Garfield this year. Ironically, he plays a Christian who suffers for his faith in both of them. I've seen Hacksaw Ridge and loved it but the Japanese historicity for this looks dope.

Was keen to watch this because of Scorsese, and although I wanted to like it, was very average. Glad I didn't pay (yay screeners)

I've read that he has been wanting to make it for ages, I'm thinking he was just too close to it and couldn't edit it down objectively.

Good half hour plus could be removed and still achieve the same message. What is there is the same message over and over.

The incomparable Liam Neesons can save his tooken daughter, but even he can't save this movie.

Bisi being generous with 7, more like a 6 max.

I thought this was incredibly boring. Father Garupe was pretty awesome though! (Not) Probably one of the dumbest on screen deaths Ive seen.

Garfield just aggrivates me, too. He is really REALLY unconvincing when he tries to act sad or horrified.

I couldn't make it to the end. I appreciate good film making, but this was just tortuous to go through. The pacing of the film felt like a slug meandering through molasses.
