took a lot of teenagers out to see this (or minecraft for the younger ones) today while women cooked easter dinner.
its ok, its a decently made kiddie horror movie. Its nowhere near as good as Dusk Till Dawn or Nosferatu which I'd say is the more artistic/deeper movie by far. The vampire stuff in this movie is paper thin and just really basic stuff you've seen done a million times, like literally any shlocky SyFy vampire movie is deeper in vampire lore than this movie. Twilight has more vampire lore than this movie. There is nothing really scary or super violent, some minor violence but I've seen worse in call of duty.
Haley Steinfeld is barely in the movie and not an important character in the slightest, there is no nudity at all, and its a "we're black ya'll, we're black ya'll, blackity blackity black black black" type of movie. Which I don't care, its a well done movie and no gay or tranny shit, but a lot of KKK/deep south racism/jim crow type stuff that'll piss some of you off.
Music is a HUGE part of this movie which I didn't know going in, if you're one of those "the blues is a cornerstone of American culture" pretentious douchebags you'll love this movie. I don't really care about any of it so it just washed over me like Ryan Gosling explaining jazz in La La Land. There was a big music scene about an hour into the movie I thought was super retarded but I bet a lot of critics thought it was high brow genius art. The first hour of the movie is SUPER slow.
NOT worth a trip out to theaters unless you have to see every vampire movie, its fine at home in 3 months and entirely forgettable. There is a post credits scene that sets up a retarded sequel I guess and another that is just more music flex.
Thats two movies so far this year i've gone out to theaters and sorta regretted - Mickey 17 and this. I'll probably see Thunderbolts and Mission Impossible 8 in theaters, please lord don't let them be just average too.
