Have any of you played this? It looks kinda cool.

As a side note. The art on the cards is beautiful.

I like it a decent bit, but it's actually closer to playing chess than it is to playing most CCGs people might be familiar with.

Think of it like chess but both players get to decide what their pieces are instead of being the same board each game.

Art is 10/10, but their price point is kinda rough for it being a nearly unknown game that has a dubious future ahead of it. Asking ~175$ for randomized booster boxes of cards is a tall ask for a brand new game like this that in all likelihood will be dead in a year or two.

Man this game looks kinda interesting but that price and the closest place near me that's a "retailer" is a public library (?) 80 miles away. Womp womp guess this one ain't it right now anyway.

Yea they are having a rough go with getting it in to card stores, and it's not available at the usual baseball card kiosks in Walmarts etc either. So you're stuck mostly ordering it online, but they are charging basically MTG prices (or more) for boxes and using a very similar system of rarity of cards in packs, which is just not a thing a lot of people are willing to buy in to.

The list of failed/dead CCGs over the years is crazy, and the odds of this joining them are pretty high to be spending ~500$ or more to get a playable collection going.

That's my problem, I'm willing to chuck normal game money if its online only or small to play something if it fits everything I want (which this seems to be in that ballpark) since it would be fun to play with F&F in lieu of a boardgame or something, but MTG prices are not in that realm of temporary enjoyment value.

So I did their retailer search. And got 1 store in my county on long island. K was like really? So I just drove around during work and found them at a bunch of stores.

But yeah box's of their beta set are like 150 to 250.and the new set is like 125 to 150. Such a huge buy in.

But omg I love the art. But I don't want my wife to yell at me for buy $300 of cards for s gsme that may die out.

But then again the price of the singles for the game are insane on ebay. Which I do not understand.

It's purely speculative nonsense. The actual player base for the game is nearly non-existent.

Every single CCG that releases that appears to be even half-way 'legitimate' does this cause no one wants to miss out of the next MTG.

They way they did their initial kickstarter and alpha release etc also was deliberately designed to trigger a bunch of FOMO buying on their hyper limited print runs etc.

I dunno I've become allergic to these prices. Not because I technically can't buy this shit but it's been so bad with everything in the last two years I just turn my nose up at anything that's not a value.

also ngl them calling it 'alpha' and 'beta' really rub me the wrong way as a cash grab for vulnerable mtg addicts

I mean the entire game is more less memberberries for like the 1998-2004 era of MTG so yea the alpha/beta monikers were entirely deliberate

It's a fun game to actually play, you just need to be aware that it's gonna cost you like 500$ to buy in, and potentially more than that if you find a competitive scene in your area etc.

I'd only be playing with my wife and kids. So competitiveness doesn't bother me. I've played magic for 30yrs and I've never played at a shop or in a tournament lol.

But yeah that buy in price to just play around at home. Oof lol

Does this have “starter decks” like magic did back in the day? A place a couple miles from me sells them, wouldn’t mind buying a couple start decks to play with my kid but no way am I doing some kind of mtg level bullshit buying 100 random packs to try to play.
