Did a search, didn't find a thread for this show, which kind of surprises me.

I completely missed this show until a few weeks ago. Saw part of an episode while at a bar and it just seemed completely insane and hilarious. Made a point to catch up on it, and it's been one of the funniest new shows I've seen on TV in a awhile.

It just had it's season finale and I hope to god it gets renewed, but I'm afraid they marketed it poorly since I never saw much about it.

Man I'm glad you made a thread about this show, because I went ahead and watched it this past weekend, and fucking loved it. I was hooked from the beginning because I think the mom is gorgeous (saw her on The Following before I threw my hands up in the air about how stupid that show was), but after one episode I knew I'd be watching them all. This is comedy I love, where they don't pause for every laugh or telegraph the fact that they just made a joke. This shit is just straight up hilarious, without seeming to try so hard.

Cannot recommend highly enough.

Yep me too. I checked out both this and Letterkenny and I got through two episodes of LK very slowly, this show I plowed through all ten in two sittings.

I actually find both kid actors to be pretty funny too. Although, the show does get pretty god damn dark with a few bits towards the end. Right on the verge of too dark I think, but still within the 'funny' category.

Specifically (spoilers for a comedy?):

The B&B doctor host, after he has his stroke, and is sitting in his chair all fucked up with a gun in his mouth ready to kill himself. Also that flashback scene where young Jason Jones is just sitting on his living room floor crying while his parents are yelling and screaming and fighting over Christmas. That kid looked sad as fuck, although it was lightened since Samantha Bee is playing the mom of her real life husband (JJ), and I think that was also Jason Jones playing his own father?

haha, I watched the last few episodes before I went back and watched the first 6-7 episodes online.. so I didn't totally get that joke about the guy about to commit suicide till you mentioned it. Just now realized it was the pedo doctor guy from earlier in the season. It definitely gets dark, but it's generally MORE hilarious when it goes dark, I found. They skirted that edge pretty well, imo, but it was for sure close to going too far.

I had a feeling Samanthe Bee and Jason Jones were together, didn't know for sure till I just googled it to confirm, and yes, I like both kid actors. Most kid actors get kind of annoying after awhile, but both of these fit their characters perfectly. The one kid having a few redeeming moments to not be acompletedumbass later on in the season, kept him from becoming annoying.

I will be looking forward to next season and hope they can keep up the same level of comedy with a different premise
the whole 'mom being a fugitive' thing.. guessing they will be on the run and still doing a road trip in that season for that reason. The 'road trip' premise lets them do alot of random things so they can make the joke fit the premise, rather then the other way around that most comedies have to do. Its why early Family Guy episodes were so funny before they beat that dead horse.

Only two episodes in but so far this is probably the best new comedy on TV by far.

I've only watched 2 episodes but its just ok, kids are good but not a fan of jason jones so far, he is basically just "idiot husband doing really dumb things" - hopefully his character gets better. angie tribeca is way, way funnier as a new show but I'll stick with this and watch the rest of the season.

See, Angie Tribeca just doesn't do it for me. I loved Naked Gun and Airplane and stuff like that, sure, but to me Angie Tribeca is just relentless with the absurdity and shoving it in your face over and over. I can handle that in a 90 minute movie, and even think it was hilarious, but an entire series gets tiring for me. I stopped Angie Tribeca after a couple of episodes because of that. To me The Detour is more entertaining because pretty much every single thing can (and often has) happened to one of us in real life. They just happened to string a ridiculously high number of those instances together into a series. But a lot of the things in Angie Tribeca cannot ever happen in real life, and when they string a ridiculously high number of those into a series, it turns me off.

Different opinions and different ideas of humor, so no big deal, it obviously doesn't affect me one bit if you don't watch it. Just stating why I like The Detour in case it matters to someone trying to decide if they want to watch it is all.

I don't mind angie tribeca, marathoned through the first season on DVR, but I'm not jonesing to watch season 2 as they come out. I'll let them accumulate on the DVR and watch some day when I got nothing else going on.

I had the complete opposite opinion. Angie Tribeca was doing nothing for me. Which is a shame because I really wanted to like it.

What the fuck.. This show has done a huge change from the first season in how stupid all the characters are. The thing I liked about the first season was that the two parents had relatively normal reactions to the crazy things happening around them. In this season (and I guess the last episodes all leaked online) it's like they got steadily more ignorant as it went on. Especially the episodes in Cuba at the end.

When they both act pissed off at the guy for throwing the dynamite, that was RIGHT NEXT TO THEM under the tree stump, at the cow, was beyond stupid. No one would be that fucking ignorant to not realize the guy just saved their lives. Or, when he asks for 'soap' and the lady hands him 'soapa' and it was obviously soup.
It's lazy as fuck writing is what it is. They thought of something they think is funny, and then create the character's reactions to get to that resolution, even if it's not how anybody would ever react. Don't even get me started on how they've made the girl a functioning autistic, when she wasn't that way in season 1.
I'm so pissed because I really liked season 1 and now I'm instead aggravated as fuck after finishing season 2. I would have stopped watching about 2/3rds through, but I wanted to see where the storyline ended.

Yeah it became more outlandish and raunchy as the series progressed. I still get a good laugh here and there, but I was digging the Vacation-like vibe at the start of the series.

Oh, and I LOVE Angie Tribeca. Love that shit. Totally looking forward to S3.

I still enjoyed this season (finished all of it) because it actually made them somewhat competent at a lot of things. Yes, I realize that scenes like the dynamite one completely contradict that statement, and I thought those were just as stupid as the rest of you did. But when they weren't doing something like that, they were actually kind of sneaky smart about things, whereas the first season they weren't portrayed that way at all, ever.

I still liked season one better, but I wasn't overly upset by this one either.

I liked this season, the first half more than the second, probably. The best parts I think are Robin and Nate's weird sexual dialogues about sex. Him trying to fingerblast her while driving and the ho-hum handjob in the sperm clinic were great. Not to mention his description of a starfish picking up a quarter off a glass table.

Still better than most sitcom multi camera garbage for sure.

Like what? I cant think of them being smart about almost anything, especially the 2nd half which is fresher in my mind. Like, nate selling water pills for 'h2o ax' and not realizing its a scam even at the end.
Though, the worst ones were all in Cuba, by far.

I didn't like how they made the parents retarded this season. That being said there was still some really funny things. The neighbors and the cuck husband. The karate event was also hilarious.

Mostly the stuff with the USPIS investigation. They were intentionally misleading those people, and aware of a lot of the things we were being shown as them being clueless. They'd go an entire episode about something, making us think the parents didn't know shit, and then next episode we'd find out they were lying the whole time because they knew about it already.

Which, I agree, is sort of at odds with the rest of their actions, particularly Cuba. The dynamite thing was eye-rollingly bad. I'll admit, however, that I laughed too hard at the little interlude of the guy with the cart telling his son that they'd finally made it.
