I feel like if this happened you'd just get more characters that were reskinned versions of the old ones. And even if they weren't, people would still compare them to the originals, likely in a negative light.

For example, how do you make a team of young adults that aren't at least somewhat derivative of the X-Men or Teen Titans? And if you do, will they be entertaining?

Even if you are only talking about specific ones like Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman (which isn't really fair because there are tons almost as old), those are still archetypal characters so do you just never make a super-strong guy that can fly? Or a super-smart guy that figures shit out and makes gadgets? Or a strong wahmen character? If you do, why not just keep the old ones?
japan says yes. Demonslayer, one punch man, my hero academia, little witch, etc..
if all your stories take place in a different universe, you can tell any story you want.
look at things like Invincible and The Boys. Fresh but, still a bit of derivative.

the shared DC universe, MASSIVELY reduces the stories you can tell.
Wanted, Watchman, etc. we constantly get stuff that ripes off the DCuniverse to tell great stories. but DC itself CAN'T because its latched to that status quo.
There are of course "what ifs" or non canon stuff. like Arkham asylum games, etc. which have their own canon. is that good? is that having your cake and eating it too? Personally I don't think it works well. I think the manga style of just a single canon, and no shared universe works better.

I purchased my first comic/graphic novel in over 20 years yesterday. Razorfist's Ghost of the Badlands. I can't wait to dive into this.

context on that one?
EVS posted that B&W page on the left on Twitter a while back. Said this is preview art for Yaira, and EJ hired this not-ready-for-prime-time female artist Debra Carita to draw it, and look at what a shitty job she did.

EJ said EVS is full of shit, he's never seen this image before, and it's probably from a Reddit fan page or something.

(Problem is, EVS pulled that page from ISOM #2, EJ's OWN FUCKING BOOK, where 2 pages uncolored from Yaira were included as a preview - that was one of the two pages. Yes, this is really a thing that happened.)

EJ announces he hired Caanan White to oversee art for his books, but not actually doing any art.

EVS says that's fucking retarded, White is a good artist, just fucking hire HIM to draw Yaira. Instead, EVS says, EJ hired White to fix chick's shitty art.

EJ says no I didn't, though he may help guide any artists working for him.

EVS says ok, easy way to see if EJ is full of shit. If this B&W page appears in the book as in, then White isn't actually redrawing stuff (and not getting credit).

Preview of finished colored page comes out and... it's stupid fucking obvious White redrew it.

So not only did Eric lie about something that EVERYBODY could see he was lying about (wrt "never seen that page before"), but now you also see he was lying about Caanan White's real job. EJ is not capable of telling the truth. And he makes a habit of going after everyone who calls him out on his lies. The dude is total scum.
