Just rewatched this movie today and enjoyed it tremendously again. Cant believe its already been 5 years. I wish they would bring back Marc Forster to direct the next Bond film.

I really wanted to like Skyfall and at some point I think I convinced myself it was a good movie, but after rewatching it - it really fell apart for me by the end.

I think Quantum has several fantastic scenes like the entire Opera sequence, the assault on the Hotel, the airplane sequence - as well as great locations. The plot and the villain are also fantastic, instead of the usual gimmicky death ray tropes, or trying to get all the money in the world, it has the prescience to consider water rights as something that people will be fighting over tooth and nail in 20-30 years and use it as a plot device. Dominic Greene is a great villain too, the actor who plays him did a fantastic job. Certainly a better villain than Le Chiffre or Raoul Silva

Not sure if serious because Araysar.

However, I did think QoS was better than Skyfall. And I'd agree with all the reasons you mentioned for both CR and QoS. Skyfall got too gimmicky and cheesy, even though it was still grittier and edgier than older Bond films. It wasn't perfect but I thought they had the feel of the reboot going better and dropped the ball with the third movie.

I think Quantum was a decent movie but fell a little short in the end. I recall it needing a few minutes of padding here and there to smooth out the story a bit. Also you really had to have seen Casino Royale and relatively recently to be able to follow some of what was going on and who some people were, which is both good and bad I guess.

Much of the movie made no sense because the writers strike forced them to shoot with a shitty script. The Mathis scene, the ambiguous closure to the Vesper storyline, etc. And trying to make Olga Kuriniakkoyao Bolivian failed horribly. And who gives a shit about a plot to sell expensive water to people in a third world dump?

Kreugen is the perfect example of a viewer, for whom the plot flew entirely over his head.

Mathis scene - Medrano/Greene tortured Mathis to get info about Bond from him, then shoved him into the trunk of Bond's car, then tipped off the cops about it. Likely the cops were working for Medrano anyways and had orders to kill them both.

Vesper - nothing ambiguous about it. She was the one who betrayed Bond to Le Chiffre in Montenegro and he wiped him out financially and then she wouldnt let him reup so that Bond would lose the tournament. He only stayed in because Leiter gave him his stake. The final scene in Quantum explains how Yusef would seduce high ranking women and then get "kidnapped" so that they could blackmail them. She is vindicated at the end because Bond realizes that Quantum forced her to do things against her will.

Olga Kurylenko was OK as a Bolivian. This isn't much of a complaint.

The plot wasnt to sell "expensive water", it was to sell water, period, to people who would have access to none. In this scenario water becomes more expensive than oil or gold. But if a viewer doesnt know anything about water rights, or water politics - its no surprise that something like this would fly entirely over their head. It's a genius plot point honestly.

It was extremely easy to follow. They practically spoon fed that having access to no water would drive up the prices making it the most valuable thing possible. His argument is that the idea of no water in a 3rd world shit hole wasn't interesting to him. Thus, he had little care in the outcome of the story.

Ok, I can see that.

But it's still about money. Either making money by selling that water back to Bolivian government to keep their people from rioting and overthrowing the government or by having a Poker Holdem Tournament in former Yugoslavia or by "controlling all the markets in the world" or whatever the fuck Raoul Silva claimed he was going to do in Skyfall aside from taking his revenge on M.

I was dissapointed that Skyfall didn't continue the Mr. White storyline, I was waiting for the rebooted Blofeld reveal. I heard it was going to be somewhat of a triology?

Instead we got Home Alone in Scotland for the shittiest revenge ever. It felt like the finale of the old bonds (they mention him being old!?) instead of the 3rd film of the new ones (other than rediculous last 5 minutes).

Each one has been worse than the one before. Casino Royale is the best Bond ever. QoS is still pretty good and Skyfall is underwhelming. Really hope they bounce back with the next Bond. Daniel Craig is too awesome of a Bond for the movies to be mediocre.

Uh, I understood all that perfectly well, thank you very much. But what was that nonsense about Mathis's code name? And why did Bond suddenly trust him in the first place? And cutting short the scene with Vesper's boyfriend was lame and the whole bit seemed out of place. And I didn't even get into the most confusing action scene editing in the history of film. Its hard to like the movie when the opening car chase and subsequent bit with the assassin was a complete fucking mess. I never had an issue with the quick cuts in Bourne Supremacy, so why is QoS an indecipherable mess?

That said, Craig is incredible in the role and the movie was still better than most of the Brosnan stuff. But I'd rather watch Skyfall because Bardham is fun and the action scenes are better.

I find Quantum of Solace enjoyable, and if you watch Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace back to back, I find it's a much better movie.

The only reason its enjoyable is Daniel Craig. Which could be why I'm the only person on the planet that seems to have liked Skyfall.
