I wonder if any "gaming journalists" have tried to estimate the number of active players at any given time.
Well, considering "insert your timezone servers" are consistently full from mid-day till evening, I'd say there's quite a lot of players.
But they are split between the PU, PTU and all the other testing areas.

Kind of expect any day to read about Chris Roberts transistioning into "get the hell out" mode. Step down, less visible, sit on his money out of the public eye. Make plans to be gone if and when the shit hits the fan, eventually. From the looks of it he may be buying his own bullshit and ends up sticking around to the very end and goes down with the ship.

They most likely will be increasing that amount this week as it's their annual "promotion" where you can play for free and they introduce new ships, there's always a spike in sales during this event.
Still haven't played in years, I may give it a try soon since they added a lot of stuff in this release, or I'll wait for 4.0 and server meshing and see how that works out.
