It took its time on RR finding the right style. Brink did switch from a pure litrpg to a cultivation/litrpg hybrid after a few chapters. I dropped the series when he did a fridging. That's a mostly unforgivable sin in narration nowadays.

The lottery system is: 5 days to bid on plots Roll occurs 4 days to come back to the plot to check if you won, and claim it (or recover your money) Loops back So, in theory, you'd have 4 days until the next batch (including the unclaimed ones) goes back on sale... except they're extending that...

Yea, pisses me off, since I was the last bidder on my plot, which means I had almost certainly 0% chance of getting it.

Remember, we live in a high inflation era, so spending is typically better than hoarding your money (unless you've got insane returns there). Anytime prices are going down, it's an opportunity that is sure to vanish sooner rather than later.

Even worse are "gaming NFTs". Because they are completely undistinguishable from centralized proofs of ownership. I mean, I know. If you want players of your game to sell their gear to each other, just say so, and put a trading platform on your site. I mean, it didn't end badly for D3...

Hard to justify? To whom? None of these committee members are ever called to account for how they spend money. I mean, they can always claim that they're spending it on their own states, which mollifies their own voter base, no matter how much they swindle the other states for it.

Just like people who pretend to like coffee and dump a ton of sugar in it - no, you don't like coffee, you like coffee-flavored sugar. 99% cacao FTW. That's a commercial price. NASA adds enough red tape, meetings and custom requirements to its launches that you can probably add 20-40% to the price. Still a bargain, though.

The newest chip production issue is, of course, Ukraine. Apparently, it was a major source (60%) of noble gases which are used a lot in chip making. So you now have a new shortage (not a long term one, but chip makers are reorganizing yet another supply chain).

Unfortunately, the commitee overseeing NASA (and proposing the budget) is entirely bipartisan on the matter of pork. They all love it, and care for nothing else. Unless there is a significant pressure (like the cold war space race), expecting them - and thus, NASA's higher-ups - to care about...

The end of Abaddon's Gate isn't really a cliffhanger, though. You've opened the Gatespace, it's there for the taking, and it's a new era for mankind. The End. That works. Sure, there's lots of stories remaining, and that's what they wrote afterward, but the first trilogy is self-contained, it...

    World of Warcraft: Current Year

The point is, you will not get the same game experience. The game will be designed around extrinsic rewards - rewards that you have get from out of game, in the store - rather than intrinsic, in-game, experience. Those extrinsic experiences are always lesser than in-game ones. You get the bling...

The difference is that the first one offers you all the entertainment you paid for, while the other has to be designed to offer you as little as it can while pushing you toward the expensive stuff locked behind the cash shop. By design, it will slow your levelling, so you want to purchase that...

What feature(s) or circumstance would persuade you to install a brain implant?

That's slightly different. What we were discussing seems mostly about using brain implants to augment stuff. Things like artificial retinas, anti-epilepsy systems, or memory enhancers against Alzheimer/dementia are an entirely different category. And usually pretty much a "hell yeah" thing...

Yea. Starting a series is easy, managing to finish one is hard. Specially in the case of the Expanse, since it was originally planned for the trilogy only. And usually, your publisher isn't that helpful on that point - they always like when you keep churning a popular series.

The thing is, if the game is F2P, then it has been designed around getting people to fork money in micro-transactions. There's no going around it. A game that is designed to be F2P has to include those hooks, and hobble "normal fun" to make it potentially profitable enough. So yea. It's free...

What feature(s) or circumstance would persuade you to install a brain implant?

It was Larry Niven's "ARM" universe (used in multiple stories) where you had Wireheads, who had a brain stimulator device like it. And yes, the "legal" versions had limiters in the amount it could deliver.

Well, when I made my character, my first chat remark in the FC was "OMG, I look like a weeb now". Meaning I'd made a male hyur, which is the furthest anyone can be from being a weeb. (okay, that was a reaction from the fact that I couldn't make a dwarf, like any proper game, dammit)

And there's even little details to push that emotional thing, like the "Duty Completed" cutscene. Up to Shadowbringers, when you do, you see yourself cheering along with all your team. Then you aren't going to like the game, period. As Chris tends to repeat, it is primarily a story-driven game, not a game of chasing gear, dungeon speedrunning, or doing DDR in raids - even though those aspects are there. This is truly a game where the game is the journey, not the endgame...
