I never said Subway is inherently healthier. I said it's one of the best places to get low calorie, filling meals. This is true. You can get a footlong sandwich like turkey or black forest ham, a million veggies, and mustard for 600 - 700 calories depending on the meat and bread. It's hard to...

Subway is one of the best fast food places, if not the best, to get low calorie, filling meals that are also pretty nutritious. You can get a footlong sub with meat and as many veggies as you want for around 600 calories. Compare that to a typical fast food hamburger that tends to be way smaller...

I found these Doritos Flamas at a shithole Royal Farms over the weekend. They're basically Doritos Blaze with a hint of lime flavor. The lime does a nice job of cutting the heat from the Blaze. Definitely give them a try if you're in a diverse area and see them.

This game is kicking my ass. It's "fun" in that it's different from what I'm used to play, but god damn is it hard. I also feel the need to try and keep every single soldier I have alive, which seems pretty hard to do.

BJs is great for the same reason Cheesecake Factory is great: massive portions. You don't go to either one for quality food. You go for mountains of it. Anyway, neither one is that bad. No worse than any other casual chain restaurant.

I was with colleagues so I couldn't get as much as I wanted. I got a double waffle, a large hashbrowns with jalapenos, biscuits and gravy, and some kind of bowl things filled with various breakfast foods. I ended up hitting The Varsity as well. I liked it. Chili cheese dogs/burgers are hard to...

I ended up going to Waffle House and a place Guy Fieri did on diners drive ins and dives. I'd like to hit the Varsity but I don't think I'll have time. My last night is tonight but I'm getting dragged to some fancy place that serves octopus for a work thing.

Toaster Strudels never give enough icing. They need to double or triple the icing packs to make them worth buying.

    Captain Marvel (2019)

I really enjoyed this. It was fun and it had a good pace; I never got bored or felt that it dragged. All the acting was fine and right on par with other mid-upper tier marvel movies. Lots of great connections to the bigger universe as well.

I finally tucked into this last night on the SNES. I've never played any tactics game, so the genre is new to me. That said, although I'm only about an hour in, I find it to be fairly intuitive. In terms of story, all the character and place names that are tossed around at the beginning is...

MARCH - Retro Game Nomination - Let's play!

RPGs have the benefit of requiring little skill. Games like Contra and similar action games require either a) a ton of skill b) insane amounts of practice to memorize enemy layouts and patterns. When we were kids this was fine because we'd bang our heads against the games for hours until we got...

Last week I did a direct comparison of McDs biscuit sandwiches and Chick-fil-a's. I went to Chick-fil-a first and got two chicken biscuit sandwiches and two bacon egg and cheese biscuits. The chicken biscuits were fine for driving, but the bacon egg and cheese biscuits were a cheesy (albeit...

A probably stupid question: I'm going to need to do a lot of presenting in the near future, so I need to get a laptop that can be plugged into projectors at conferences, meeting rooms, etc. Is that a pretty standard kind of port on most laptops? What exactly is it called if I need to look for...

I use those cheap gladware plastic containers you can buy in the grocery store. They come in packages of three to five. They are microwave safe, clean easily, and cheap enough to toss and buy more if they break, get lost, etc.

KFC wedges are the superior fry. It is known. When binging, I'll swing by KFC to pick up a large side of KFC wedges before going to wherever I'm getting my main course. They make a delightful appetizer. I love to nibble across the top of the wedge, almost like opening an envelope. Then gently...

Slow cooker meals are good. Throw a bunch of ingredients into a slow cooker overnight. Wake up and put them in containers and freeze them. Then you'll have 5 or 6 meals ready to heat up in the microwave whenever you want something to eat, and there is no actual cooking work involved. If you're...

Retro Game Of The Month ~- CONTRA -~ NES - Feb

I'm still working on Contra without 30 lives code. I've only put in a combined 2ish hours in smaller chunks, but at this point I can easily cruise to the level 4 boss IF I manage to get spread. With spread I can blow through levels 2 and 3, and it's just the level 4 boss that has ended me. I've...

Is there any weapon that is considered universally better? When I get the spread shot in the first level I can start cruising through really easily. If I accidentally pick up a laser or flamethrower, shit gets much harder. Half the challenge seems to be avoiding the garbage weapons.

I finally gave this a go last night. I got to the end of the second stage on my first try. The 3D perspective surprised me, but I really liked it. It looks very good for the NES. It wasn't nearly as rage-inducing as I had anticipated. Of course, I'm sure each level is going to get...

I'm back on the retro games now that WoW has fully shit the bed and my gaming time is freed up. Really hoping Yoshi's Island wins. This is one of the all-time great platformers. The controls are perfect, the levels are varied, the graphics look great (even today), and the music is iconic. It's also one of the only games where I didn't absolutely despise underwater levels.
