People want their biases confirmed, and will ignore any and all evidence to the contrary. There are a variety of studies showing that presenting people with directly refuting evidence strengthens their belief rather than reversing it. tldr; human psychology sucks

It just means accumulated savings in excess of projections (there was a large deviation during the pandemic), not that they're unnecessary or undesirable. $500B is down from $2+T or whatever it was a year or two ago. Edit...

Not because of the FAST act; it only applies to chains with over 100 locations. Being in CA, the major chains don't seem to have much of a price advantage over better, smaller, local alternatives and the quality difference is massive.

Cord-Cutting, Or How to Stream your Way to Success

Screenshots here. https://transmissionbt.com/ In your shoes I might not bother if there are built-in options. For me it was a two-click install (once I had the NAS set up, which was a pile of work.)

Yeah, I expect some bifurcation in society. I don't know that one will necessarily survive longer than the other. I can easily see an outcome where a large portion of humanity basically does nothing other than get fed and entertained by automated systems, but their offspring are needed to filter...

What NAS are you running? I have a TrueNAS box running Plex and Transmission (among other things), with the jail for Transmission set so that it only has network access through my VPN. It's been perfect for my purposes.

Would it? I think you'd be surprised about the down-market reach of cheap hardware. I'm very sure Nintendo has an entire department whose job it is to optimize sales vs develoment costs vs COGS.

Friend helping with my reno has the Festool vac. It's really nice, though not enough for me to buy one. The best feature is the power chaining so the vac kicks on automatically when it detects the tool engaging.

Yeah. Fortunately that's the last galvanized in the house after I replaced the kitchen sink plumbing and it's getting ripped out in this reno because we're moving all bath fixtures & laundry. Previous owners updated the main plumbing 10 years ago to copper (w/ ABS sewer) but left the original...

Another project mostly done. The third bedroom in the house I just bought was previously used as an office, and somewhere along the line someone put in a hallway directly from the front door which vaporized half the bedroom closet, took up too much wall space in the bedroom, and made the front...

I've started buying ~$300 memory foam mattresses. IMO they're just as good as any more expensive option. Yeah, they develop soft spots in 5-7 years, but for that cost I'll just replace. Not that hard for AI to make a compelling replica when so much music on the charts is trivial bullshit. Half of it can't even be bothered to use four chords, it's just a single bar on loop with three notes of vocals over it. No chorus, bridge, or anything. This actual Drake song is...
