I'd start with AC1 but the gameplay is a bit rough and the story is just ok. AC2 is a far superior game and the trilogy around it is one of the best in gaming, imo. So start with AC1 if you want to get in on the story from the start but go with AC2 if you don't mind looking up a cliff's notes...
