People liked Boba Fett because: 1) He just looked cool 2) He had the stones to get lippy with Vader in Empire and Vader had enough respect for the guy to not just force choke him like a bitch in return.

Yeah no shit. Did you have some sort point? If you'd watched them you'd have added "or Jackie Chan" to your worthless contribution.

Didn't see a good thread for posting this but this one will work. If you're into how the sausage gets made with regard to VFX or stunt work then this is your perfect YT channel. People who earn a living in those fields breaking down what you've been seeing up on the screen.

Yeah yeah. I know it's been a minute ... or twelve. But this is just a complete, self-contained drive-by. I watched this and immediately thought to myself "those assholes over at FOH would probably love this". And then thought what the fuck, just share it. I'm not gonna wade through all the...

As one who dislikes these ratings aggregators I hesitate to even post this but a lot of the angst that RT best movies list is causing is due to people not interpreting it properly. It's a shitty list to be sure. I don't know how their formula for adjusting the ratings works but it certainly...

    Blade Runner 2049 (2017)

Yeah really. "It's not a character driven movie" makes me wonder if he's ever seen one. The whole thing comes off as sour grapes from an actor who can't get his calls returned anymore.

Sure. What it comes down to is, and this may sound odd but, is BP's presence and part of IW being in Wakanda enough to pull in a large enough chunk of the "newer" audience? Or was the event status of the BP movie created more by the total weight of everything it has going on and can that...

If you're talking about just the opening weekend numbers I'd say it's not likely that it won't but it's definitely in the cards now whereas a few weeks ago I think most would have scoffed at the notion. One thing you have to ask how many people who are definite for IW's opening took a pass on...

I would expect a pretty big drop in the second week (but hell I said a $170 million opening weekend sounded high a few days ago and with it looking like it will be close to $200M what do I know). It won't have the Thursday night preview numbers and the holiday on Monday propping up the Sunday...

Disney won't do them any good and frankly I'd rather they not even try. China's movie preferences are about 20 years behind where they're at here currently. The sorts of movies that would have done well here in the 90's are what seem to break through over there.

3D is in it's death throes, particularly for the home market. I don't think any of the major TV manufacturers are even making 3D capable televisions anymore.

It's something that can only be guessed at for any movie because there's no data compiled on the practice. It's one of the things that Moviepass could provide some insight on if it's subscriber base grew large enough and it manages to survive (though it also encourages the practice in the process).

If I know I won't rewatch a movie I don't see the point of buying it just so it can sit on a shelf. Maybe if it has a lot of nice bonus material but even that is pretty rare.

Yeah I've seen the light on action remark made frequently enough to see that being the case. That could also impact it's numbers in China, beyond the racial considerations.

The comScore breakdown, which is gathered when they do the in person surveys for the CinemaScore was 37% black, 35% white, and 18% Hispanic. Male/female split was 55/45. Adults 73%, families 17%, teens 10%. But those surveys are taken at only about 25 locations around the country and mostly...

It's also doing really solid overseas numbers in many markets. It's made more money in it's opening weekend in the UK than Justice League made in it's entire theatrical run there. That's Black fuckin' Panther vs a DC team movie with all of that franchise's heaviest hitters in it.

Avatar and Titanic both followed that model. The original Star Wars as well. But movies don't follow it today. Ideally they want to open big and hit a decent multiplier ( x3 or more) within a couple of months before going to the ancillary market while the interest in them is still high enough...

Some people get pretty passionate about movies they like or don't like. They treat them like sports teams and the box office is the closest thing to a scoreboard for validating their opinions.

You can probably chalk that up to the quirks of the RT system. If you look at the average rating in each category they're fairly comparable (currently 8.2/10 vs 4/5). Remember the rating range for an uptick in the critic score is larger than that for the audience score.

Years from now when someone compiles one of those comprehensive histories of how the MCU was built there will be a small paragraph in the opening chapter mentioning what could have happened but didn't. Sony Pictures passed on buying almost every Marvel character for $25 million

News flash: calendar placement has an effect on box office. It's why historical comparisons between movies usually involve weighing them first against other movies that released during the same time of the year. Especially early in a movie's run when that's really the only comparison that can...

That was established within the MCU in AoU. Remember Ulton quipped that it was the most versatile substance on Earth and the elder Stark used it to make a frisbee. It bound itself to Vision's synthetic flesh on the molecular level when he was created.

More like most big cities look alike. At least enough alike for one to easily stand in for another. Marvel also shot Ant-Man, CA:CW, SMH, A&W, and both IW movies in Atlanta. GotGv2 as well but that was obviously mostly on a sound stage.
