Doesn't seem they care about the fans, as they stay out there, I think its more the players, the one time a player gets hurt via lightning strike because they didn't stop the game and then gets sued.

Would be interesting to see history of lightning delays in NFL history. Already 3 this year.

Still gives them a choice to go inside. Plus being out on the field (especially the way the Link is set up) is pretty different than being in the stands. Some stadiums its just as dangerous but they can go inside without missing anything.
