Falcons LB Sean Weatherspoon out for 8 weeks, and RB Steven Jackson out for 2-4 weeks.

There isn't much upside to injuries, but at least Atlanta plays MIA, NE, NYJ(non-division, non-conference opponents), and then TB. Weatherspoon should be back by week 11, and they play the saints again Week 12.

Makes me a little less nervous as a Dolphins fan, will be a tough game regardless.

If we go 2-3 in the next 5 weeks we will still be in good shape as the schedule gets easier. Just need to make sure one of those wins is Buffalo for divisional record.

I can't see us beating the Saints on MNF in the Superdome. That game scares me the most. The rest are winnable, but I don't expect to win more than 3 at best.

The town I live in only gets him. So it's either listen to this fat fuck or listen to nothing (from like 3pm-6pm). Although I'm not sure what's worse, his dumbass or the people that call in to his show. They are seriously some of the dumbest mother fuckers I've ever heard in my life.

You need to get out more. The VAST MAJORITY of people I come in contact with around here absolutely love him. I live a couple miles away from Saint Vincent (Steelers training camp place).

He is just a shock jock who knows jack and shit about football. He has a small but very vocal following of idiots. Most people I know who follow the Steelers follow guys like Jim Wexell and get analysis from guys like Tunch Ilkin who actually played in the NFL and understands the game.

Madden is the Steelers version of your idiotic Miami Dolphins radio guy who shows up on Around the Horn and likes to stir the pot. It's the Colin Cowherd sect of radio: obnoxiously loud, annoying, and pretty much always wrong.

Being the best quarter back to ever play football kind of gives you a pass there. I'd also have to imagine he knows a thing or two about the game.

Sadly I have no idea who the Miami Dolphins equivalent of him would be.
Evan Cohen on ESPN 760 in West Palm. He'll never have the ratings to be a national name but I can't stand him(I don't even know what's going to happen to him when Dan Lebatard's show goes national on ESPN Radio in October).

I think the worse part about Madden is he a national name for a little while, then was fired for being a racist.

So... what are some of your favorite sites for football coverage? Generally I dislike ESPN but I thought the divisional bloggers did a really good job. Well now they split the coverage up to individual teams and even though each team has its own reporter somehow the coverage is way worse than when they only had a blogger for each division. So what are some of your guys favorite sites for NFL news?

BBC News - Washington Redskins: Time to change the name?

Pressure is mounting on the Washington Redskins to change their name because of the offence it causes Native Americans. But will a club steeped in tradition ever buckle?

It's one of the most famous names in American sports, with a logo recognised the world over.

But even fans of the Washington Redskins are facing up to a belief that it might all have to change.

For many years, some people have questioned why the football team has a name that Native Americans find offensive. And now the campaign is building momentum.

Protests have been organised to greet the team at their away game on Sunday in Wisconsin, which will also mark the start of a season-long ad campaign on the local radio airwaves in every city the team will visit.

More and more journalists are refusing to use the name, the most recent refusenik being Christine Brennan at USA Today, who announced the move on Thursday, thereby joining Peter King at Sports Illustrated and Mike Wise at the Washington Post.

Attitudes are also changing at grassroots level. A high school in upstate New York changed its nickname to "Hawkeyes" in April after students complained the longstanding "Redskins" nickname was offensive. A month later, members of Congress formally asked the league to consider a name change.

Players have remained silent but not former players. Washington football great Art Monk said no-one should question why Native Americans feel this way about the name.

The radio ad campaign which begins on Sunday is aimed at educating listeners in every city that hosts the team why the word offends, and is organised by the federally-recognised tribe Oneida Nation.

"It's derogatory, it's dehumanising, it's degrading and it's high time this was addressed and changed because it gives the wrong message to the world," says its leader Ray Halbritter, who says he was called a redskin at school.

The word was used when his ancestors were forced off their lands at gunpoint, he says, and when their children were taken from their homes and forced to go to boarding schools.

"So it's very hurtful for us to hear. The English Dictionary says it's an offensive term and it is. There is no grey area. It's bad for the image of the league to be using a racial epithet and making money out of it."

Suggestions for alternative names for the Redskins?

I don't know why people give a shit? It's not like Native American groups are the ones bringing this up. It's a bunch of fucking white people who for some reason decided to make this a cause. Reminds me of the cause-heads from PCU.

Anyway, this has come up many times before. Eventually they'll stop caring, because it's stupid, and the Redskins will remain the Redskins.

Not really racist at all. I've seen numerous Native Americans come out and speak against this being a racist name towards them, and that most Native Americans prefer the name as it gives relevancy to their people. But that shit happened where I went to school in Syracuse (as you can see from the news article). One of the teams we regularly played used to be the Redmen and had their name changed to the Red Storm.

I do find it funny though that the majority of Americans refuse to be racist against Native Americans, where they have no problem with racism against Blacks and Hispanics, some Indiana reservations are worse than the nastiest ghettos.

This shit will get changed though because peoplehaveto be politically correct for no reason. See: Orangemen -> Orange.

edit: I just hope they don't get a stupid fucking name like the "Capitals" or the "Nationals". Being in the center of corruption isn't something to be proud of.

The name isn't going to change until Snyder's (or his heirs) bottom line is affected. It's clearly not even close yet...the Griffin hypetrain is going to be the cash cow for the foreseeable future. He's making a shitload of money on his football team, racist name or not.

For what it's worth, "members of Congress" was actually like 9 House members who likely are gravely offended by about a thousand things before they've had their morning coffee on any given day. Peter King using "Washington" instead of "Redskins" on his gossip columns doesn't actually cost the owner anything, etc. Not saying I agree or disagree, but the supposed pressure on the owner to change the name is probably overblown so far.
