I'm pretty sure Doug Flutie or someone did a free kick once from inside the 30 yard line. I think its just not done because its significantly harder to aim than kicking a held ball.

Edit: here we go

I don't even understand what the fuck that is. What are the rules for a free kick? You have to be beyond the 50 or something?
Here you gohttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fair_catch_kick

The fair catch kick is a rule at the professional and high school levels of American football that allows a team that has just made a fair catch to attempt a free kick from the spot of the catch. The kick must be either a place kick or a drop kick, and if it passes over the uprights and between the goalposts of the defensive team's goal a field goal, three points is scored to the offensive team.

It's a special type of free kick, the fair catch kick. When a fair catch is called the receiving team can elect to take a free kick. You see free kicks all the time in the form of kickoffs a very specialized free kick. IIRC there is a 10 yard buffer on all free kicks.

There are also free kicks after safeties, which can be put into play by any kick - punt, place kick without a tee, or drop kick.

It's too bad that this game is going to show us nothing about the strength of the 49ers. The Lambs are awful.

So when Fisher rallies the rams to 8-8 and gives you hope for next season are you still buying it? Or are you past that point yet?

Sam Bradford has zero idea how to pump fake, or complete passes, or do anything resembling good QB play.
