It wouldn't make sense to give them the penalty yardage from the spot, because there was no guarntee they would recover the ball. It can be advanced as it was touched by the receiving team, they blocked it, if you block a kick and it flies 10 yards and the kicking team grabs it, that's a first down.
So much wrong.

First things first. The kicking team can only advance the ball if it does not cross the line of scrimmage. A blocked punt that goes 10 yards and is touched by the kicking team is illegal touching. The touching of the ball by the blocking player behind the line of scrimmage is largely irrelevant.

In this specific case, the kick was not completed until it went out of bounds. Since neither team gained possession the kick was in progress until it went out of bounds (or had the kicking team touched it after it passed the line of scrimmage but before it went out of bounds it would have been dead at that spot). Like any other kick, it is dead at that spot. The receiving team should now have the option to enforce from the end of the kick or force the rekick.

Ugh, I said I was done with the Redskins until they get rid of the current coaching staff...but I may be done altogether if they go that route. Why can't Snyder just get a fucking GM and let the GM build the team?

Is everyone ready for the annual Dallas December implosion?
I hope so. I'm only down two fucking points (c'mon, LaFell!) and have Bennett playing tonight. Odds are in my favor, but he has laid down some stinkers this season.

Well, whether you think it's wrong or not, it's the rules. Maybe they'll change it in the offseason.

I don't see the Redskins winning another game the rest of the year. At Atlanta, home Dallas, at Giants. So best case they end up with the second worst record. Houston has at iIndy, home Denver, at Tenn. Houston can absolutely win at Indy and at Tenn. So the Redskins due to the RG3 trade will lose out on Clowney or Bridgewater. St Louis either gets their franchise QB (seeya Bradford) or the best DL prospect in a decade. Good times.

Clowney is gonna be a bust. Not a real difference maker. No one in history will make as much money off a single play as him.

Only because Larry Brown technically made his off2plays.

I still don't understand to this day how the fuck he threw it to DIRECTLY to Larry Brown with no WR in the area....TWICE.

I guess Shanahan said that he's probably benching RG3 for the rest of the year. From what I'm reading, it sounds like he's daring Snyder to fire him. Redskins are way more of a train wreck than I ever realized.

For real. I think everyone knew stuff was kind of dysfunctional with all the "he said/he said" during the off season, but holy shit, I don't think anyone saw this bullshit trainwreck (both on-and-off field) season coming.

I hope this doesn't lead to winning any more games!!!

In the short term, if the owner of the Redskins throws money at Griffin's college coach to come in and kiss his ass properly and keep his daddy out of the locker room I'm not giving this joke of a franchise another thought for the rest of my life. Other than weekly ridicule during football season, of course.

But honestly...after a day of thinking about the 21st century Chernobyl disaster that is the Washington Redskins it's clear that the long term problem is not Mike Shanahan, it's not Bob Griffin...it's the same problem it's been since 1999. The common thread through 7 head coaches in 14 years, a lot of bad contracts, losing seasons, SLAPP lawsuits filed against the local papers, etc. has been the owner. Not sure how you fix a bad owner. Daniel Snyder is 49 years old and has never even given a hint of selling the team. The guy could live another 30+ years and be a thousand times worse than Al Davis was at the end. Davis, at least, made himself a legend in football when he was a younger man. Snyder could be a half-century shitfest.

I think it's about time to hop off the crazy train. Anyone want to present their team for consideration? I'm wide open at this point!

It's Jim fucking Zorn all over again lol. If he gets fired cha ching he gets paid. Resign? No cash for the year left on the contract.

There have been bad owners and then there are turrrrible owners. At least Al and Jerrah have Super Bowls (regardless of the circumstances). I am sure if I thought long enough there would be another owner that rivals Snyder in ineptitude. Donald Sterling? The list is very short.

Yep, if the Shanaclan get fired, they still get the money remaining on their contracts and can apply for open positions elsewhere immediately. Why wouldn't they try every passive* tactic possible?

*Passive as in not being put in breach of contract. No shots at ownership. It may take years to clear the courts, but the Shanaclan will get the balance of their contracts.
