Not to derail. No. There might be 10 players who have too much power in the NBA. The rest...not so much.
Agree with you and everyone else. There is no way in hell you pay a running back big bucks any longer unless you are top 3, AND you have a shitty QB. Barkley if he was due, would come to mind. EE also.
Fair point and I agree after thinking about it more. I'll elaborate and say the NBA is a completely different animal and even average players can make an amazing career out of it. We hear also about those 10 constantly because there's a lot of narrative being pushed. The NBA is doing well.
I think this is narrative pushing as well. They use average career of a RB and forget the average career for most positions is not long. The average career is 3.3 years so most people don't make a lot of money if they compare themselves to the cream. Playing RB is tough but there some who are exceptional and have made great money at RB. Emmitt Smith, Marcus Allen, Frank Gore (my favorite current player), even Peterson if he didn't waste all of his money. 100 million wasted is all on him. For these players, maybe the top 3 get paid but there is money for a RB...he just has to last. They will never make WR, QB, DE, or even LT money. They could never do those jobs. Be grateful for your God given talent and show your worth. That's all you'll ever get as a RB.
