I don't understand why anyone would want a Japan based Assassin's Creed.
Had zero interest in checking out anything "Assassin's Creed" until that Google Stadia precursor came out with Odyssey - Very glad I ended up playing it. Loved it, and dumped nearly 100 hours into it. I generally play a game, beat the mains story line and walk away, but Odyssey really hit it for me.
Pretty much agree (although, I would personally go pure historical, rather than bothering with making the gods manifestly real). I really liked the AC games--hell, they're basically the reason I became a giant history nerd--but the whole Assassins-vs-Templars thing (both narratively, and the parkour-and-hidden-blade core gameplay) and the Ancient Aliens elements have thoroughly worn out their welcome for me. Honestly, RDR2 is basically what I wish Ubisoft would replace AC with.holy shit that looks good.
I'll reiterate what people said about AC:Odyssey though: Game would be way better if they just called it "Valhalla", ditched the Assassins vs Templar angle, ditched the modern immersion-breaking parts and then added in a background of "Yeah Odin, Thor and everything is totes for real". Same could've been said for Odyssey having Greek gods and Origins having Egyptian gods.
Cinematic trailer looks tryhard and gay, still have hopes for a high quality gameplay trailer
Yea, it's their main brand for this kind of game. I like the animus stuff, but I'd rather they do it well. I like the stories that portray the Extreme versions of Order and Chaos that the Templars and Assasin's represent. The assassin's, may be the protagonists, but they aren't really the 'good guys'.
