Gotta love reading the disagreements over the book. One person will argue that it's only 6.0 with a psychic phase added and a few changed rules and that there isn't any need to buy a new BRB, and another person will argue that it's such an incredibly drastic update that you do indeed need to buy a new BRB!

Being able to run multiple FOC w/o having to go to 2K with double FOC might be interesting. People are crying that this will herald the coming of the end times (ERMAGERD 50 RIPTIDES!!! MUCH ABUSE, SO WOW!) but I'm not really sure if the points cost will let you do that. I'd just want to try something like 6 dreads in 1500 (since I have a lot of dreads) and CSM can only take them as elites. I can't even imagine what Orks might be able to do: IIRC they could end up with their # of troop choices capped and still be relatively low on points. So I'd wonder if it would be possible to literally run 90% boys and whatever else, 12-18 troop units or more just swarming across the table. Not sure how well the "Powerklaw delivery system" is currently with how wound allocation and CC in this edition, but if it were anything like when the last Ork codex came out that might be really nasty.

So many of the changes have generated so many tears...FMC assault, vector strike, I could go on.

EDIT: sometimes I wish I had started orks back in the day instead. Killa Kan and Ork Dread spam, for as far as the eye can see! I almost want to start chanting"'Ere we go, 'ere we go, 'ere we go..."

When it all comes down to it, 40K is a great "leisure" game when played with family / friends because the rules are so convoluted and honestly will never really be "fixed" in everyone's eyes but once you start to play competitively, it goes to shit. I have only played with my brothers and 2 friends since 3rd edition at someones house and regardless of the edition / what army you play or play against, we always have a good time. Now granted we only get around to playing like once every couple of months cause of real life, it's always a fun time. All the neck-beards ( or whatever they call them for Games Workshop games) really need to chill the fuck out or go play something like Starcraft if they want extremely tweaked rule sets for war gaming.

I should quote myself when the new Ork book comes out and I'm all over it like a fat kid on cake.

i guess orks have Kans, dreds, gorkanaught (i suppose morkanaught too) stompa and great stompa?

i feel like there is a lot of unexplored design space and they are just treading the same water over and over.

I'm guessing the Gorkanaut will fill the 200-400point heavy Walker/MC role to compete with the Imperial Knights, Wraithknights, and Riptides. Killa Kanz & Deff Dreadz are on the same level as Dreadnoughts (flimsy bullet magnet) and Stompas are Lords of War which means they're too expensive to bring outside of Apocalypse style games.

I agree that they look a bit samey but half the joy in playing Orks comes from kitbashing.

Welcome to 40K!

So why play this instead of one of the actual balanced and good games out there? I don't get it.

You'll have to spend another grand updating rule books and replacing models which are no longer usable as well so....

I just don't get it. We have a group at the local shop who plays 40k. All they do is bitch about how terrible everything about it is from the marketing mechanic to the rules. We have like 20 dudes over here who play Warmachine. Come play with us and be less grumpy and actually enjoy playing the game....

We do enjoy the game and I have a feeling that the main reason is that we are so casual and not min/maxing like most 40k people do. We have close to one of each model / unit and just play whatever we feel like instead of just bring X "broken unit from current edition" case in point flyers from 6th. We each got 1 flyer because they were new and had a different mechanic to them instead of what most "leet" dudes did was buy squadrans of flyers and now that they are nerfed in 7th, those people are screaming bloody murder.

I don't know if the client base is just worse off then most nerd hobbies but reading threads over at Dakka dakka is pathetic.

LOL, the threads at Dakka Dakka mirror what I hear at my FLGS. It's like the 40k players are abused wives who won't leave home. I've been trying to figure out what it is for a long time and I just can't get it. I get what the initial draw is. I played 40k and Fantasy for a decade or so, I just don't get why people stay.

It's the 40k Universe and the quality of the models that keeps me coming back. Warmachine might be a much better game in terms of balanced rules but I don't have any interest in the setting.

Anyways, some more leaked Ork pics.

Here's my big beef: GW could easily GROW the hobby by putting their cash reserves into making the game accessible. Instead, they've resigned modeling to a niche that is slowly dying and have decided to milk the gravy train until it's gone. Sucks.

Yeah I'll more than likely throw money at GW for the Ork stuff. Honestly I'm lucky and my local gaming community is pretty awesome. If it wasnt for them I would have gotten out of GW stuff a long time ago.

Casual is a tough thing to define, and not even casual players want to spend a lot of time arguing over rules or getting rolled. And I don't even think that either of the groups I hang with really HAVE any flyers (other than the one IG/Ork/etc player that likes to rotate through his armies depending on which one is better competitively).

I have to say that if you guys have fun, then great, but from my perspective I see BOTH casuals and WAAC players hating the rules and game balance and people feeling that they're trapped in a hobby that they've invested heavily in and, at the end of the day, that they really don't have fun playing anymore. In fact there is only one or two casual players that I know that even enjoy playing anymore, so one of us might be in a situation that isn't the norm.

Heading to shop tomorrow and playing Crimson Fists against my buddies Orks. Will be interesting to test the 7th edition stuff, least I can do before I declare the sky is falling or drop $85 on the new rules. Hopefully it's not sucktacular, Praise be the Emperor!
