Oathbringer by Brandon Sanderson: Prologue
To expand on that, all of Sanderson's books take place on different worlds in the same universe. For most of the books, this fact isn't really mentioned (except for the fact that Hoid shows up in all the books), but Stormlight is where it starts to become relevant--it's still not the focus of the story, but it starts to become more visible.Read the rest of the Mistborn books and all his other stuff. He's got the ambitious goal of tying all his books into a cohesive universe.
I dunno, I wouldn't break it up into the first parts vs the end parts. Kaladins current time story is good from pretty much the beginning. The Way of Kings starts out REALLY slow. I found it genuinely to be a slog for about the first 2/3rds. It definitely picks up in the last third though, and the second book is excellent, apart from a few minor quibbles.
Shallan's story gets a lot better in the second book, imo.I dunno, I wouldn't break it up into the first parts vs the end parts. Kaladins current time story is good from pretty much the beginning.
The problem is Shallans stuff is boring and Kaladins backstory is good but slow.

Last I saw the cosmere was going to be 37 books. That might have changed with him doing Wax and Wayne books

I don't buy into the whole Adolin-is-gonna-be-bad thing. He dindu nuffin that didn't need to be done, because fuck Sadaes. Sanderson's gotta be more subtle than that, right? Adolin was totally surprised by the copy-cat killer, it seemed to me. Now Renarin is curious, or knows something. Ten-book series, cosmere. I dunno.
