I want to hate it on principle, I do. But honestly for a regular network show so far this seems to be a fucking masterpiece. This could be really good.
This is a sexy show, but the bolded part is the bitter truth. It is nice to see a show that uses a generous amount of special effects while not over doing it. The acting is very well done, as is the dialogue. Karl Urban makes the show but his partner does a great job as well. Definitely will be watching this show as it seems to have a lot of promise. The potential moral issues that could crop up in this show dealing with everything from cloning to nano-technology is becoming more and more relevant in this day and age. It is difficult not thinking of Karl Urban as Judge Dredd but that scene where he takes an honest moment to hug the survivor helped to alleviate that feeling.
For a FoX show I am impressed, which meanswe should enjoy the only season this show will exist.
Because at the moment it's to much "feel good TV" I want some story lines to darken it up a bit. The whole premise when this started was cop was ambushed due to corruption in his office, partner was killed, he got his leg blown off and a year later the syndicate seems to be showing it's head again. Cop gets partnered with a machine akin o the one who left him and his partner to die. Why, exactly? I'm not picking on you specifically Tarrant, but I keep seeing this get brought up again and again in the TV section. Don't get me wrong, if it is done well it can make a show even better, but if it is done badly it will just make the show worse. Some shows are better off sticking to the "monster of the week" formula instead of trying to shoehorn in some grand, overarching plot. Take early CSI, Law and Order, hell even early X-Files, the vast majority of Farscape, old shows like Fantasy Island, etc. I could name dozens. Sometimes it is fun just to see characters confronting new problems each week.
I'm all for serialized stories with a larger goal; shows like Babylon 5, Battlestar Galactica, Sopranos, Shield, Breaking Bad, etc. are all awesome and better for being one big story (for the most part). But not every show is better that way. What's wrong with a show that if you skip a week you can watch the following and not have missed anything?
Maybe it is because I'm older and I'm used to all those old shows that had no larger story. A-Team, Dukes of Hazzard, Love Boat, Knight Rider, Airwolf, Greatest American Hero...more than I can remember I'm sure. Those were all awesome shows, in their own way. I just don't get why everyone insists that there has to be more to like a show nowadays. Sometimes I just want to sit down and be entertained for 40 minutes. Who cares if it ties into something else two months from now?
Maybe so, but he was full Judge Dredd mode in that scene with that corrupt cop lol. What a shame. They blew a perfect opportunity to have Urban scowl and say "I AM the law!"
That's one guy who is going to regret making his 'you'll never get away with this' rant so convincing ;pMaybe so, but he was full Judge Dredd mode in that scene with that corrupt cop lol.
