This game desperately needs friendly fire.

That video from the last page gave me DAOC flashbacks of terrible PBAOE groups. It's an awful mechanic and something that should have been fixed and never seen again as of a decade ago.

SpicyMMOTV has a bunch of "Lets Find out Archage Part 1-12" IIRC are the video numbers. I've been watching a few of them here and there I'm not claiming he is a genius or these have the best production values ever but there is a lot of good information for people looking to find it. He can be a little annoying at times so you have been warned ahead of time but there is a lot of good info in the videos.

He covers everything from character creation, to PVP, Zone War Status, Honor Points, Prison, Pirates, cost of death as an asshole, cost of death as a trader, cost of losing your ship and its goods etc.. Goes into detail about over land trading vs ocean trading and how its very lucrative but costly if you get nailed by pirates / other team. There are also various housing videos and general game play information on lesser systems.

Definitely skip around a bit in the videos. Some of them are pretty long and unedited others are better done.

what is the big thing in this game? are we supposed to have fun with little bit of housing, stealing, etc? Can we invade shit and loot, establish alliance, and whatnot?

Not as many as their are lame PVP games. Seriously. This PVP fad in open world MMOs is getting rather retarded, IMO.
I'm still waiting for a PvE centric MMORPG and when I say PvE I don't mean the stupid Raiding "end game" or the overwhelmingly boring Quest-Grind-Hub-Infested-Pre-Defined-Paths-Too-Linear-Retarded-Game-Design....

So for the end-game PVP if you happen to be a powerful guild can you stack out some territory, build your shit on it, defend it from any wannabe attackers and then ruin everyone elses day by destroying their cities?

Pretty much.

In addition if people want housing and other stuff they have to do the trading stuff, since that is where the bulk f the currency for nice things comes from (in addition to gold). Obviously trading is deadly since the goods you transport are valuable and people can kill you, steal your shit and finish the run for the reward. Even your own side. Its not kick in the balls full loot PVP that gets people to quit but still rewarding and painful for those involved. Seems like a nice trade off.

Hopefully they get the siege stuff smoothed out. If they simply adjust how the re spawning works and make siege useable from walls it should be fairly easy to shit something out that plays acceptably. Having mobile respawn platforms being expensive but necessary make a nice target for both sides. Limiting how much they can be used either in total or in a certain time only makes sense. As does making them destructible.

Nice thing about the game is it fits a bunch of different rolls and everyone needs everyone else. Including the option to just be a dick head and kill / steal everything. However its a hard life as it should be. Regular Joe PvP will have plenty of that with the other faction and defending against Pirates and the PVE / Crafting / Farmville crowd should find themselves an important roll as well.

Tuco, If it helps, my first thought when I played the game was "this is PRX's next game." I'm guessing you guys will love the sandbox PvP aspect of it, as long as all enough of the other PvP guilds play so its not just scrub stomping. If you have any specific questions about it, let me know.

For me, the combat feels too dated for me to be terribly excited about and there isn't any "on demand" PvP (i.e. no BGs, Arenas, etc.) and won't be. From what I understand, the developers have expressly stated that there will never be on demand instanced PvP because they do not want to distract from the world PvP. I understand and agree with their approach, but makes it less "my style" of game. Still, the combat is good enough that if you like the systems, you shouldn't be too put off by it.

Its worth it b/c its easy to get set up...costs about $45 a month or so all in. Nothing magical. Just go towww.newgameway.comand buy an account. You can DL the client from a torrent or directly from the site. You have to be open minded, thought, and willing to spend an hour on a quest that should take 20 seconds because you don't speak the language.

Cool. Instanced PVP is too repetitive for me and I'm glad at least one game is ditching it.

PRX is looking very closely at Archeage. In addition to Wildstar and TESO. At least with Archeage we know exactly what we're getting.
