Tuco, you think you can post pics (maybe glider overviews) of the castles in an overlay so that we can see how they shape up strategically? Like which castle has the best natural defenses, which castle is on lowest ground, etc?

It definitely helps when you're describing battles to have a mental idea of the battlegrounds.

Also, did PRX get their first choice of castle even though you picked last? Was there another spot you'd rather have but was nabbed first?

Agreed. I probably wouldn't mind so much three months from now. I just can't fathom why they would release them so early. I'm an EQ vet so the grindy aspects of the game I tolerate and even like, but hasla is just too stupid.
Because XLGames told them too, according to Scapes.

Yes, we got our first choice. There are differences between the different zones and arguments over which is best but I think they're about even, but we wanted Calmlands. Our claim spot is what we wanted to, but we would've been happy with the one to the east in Calmlands also.

Personally I like the one we have since it's atop a big hill, is pretty close to the center of Auroria, is aesthetically pleasing, has the most common climates etc.

Even though we got everything we wanted, we would've been happy to get a castle in Shitsville, Nowhere if that's what we ended up with. With the server being so dodgy, Kyrios being the most populated and having many solid groups of guilds who could probably dominate half the other servers we are super happy to end up holding a castle.

Sounds like an entire guild full of Rescorlas. "What's the difference between a 2 hand staff and a 2 hand sword guys??????"
Do military vets cause a sense of inadequacy in you?

In a PVP game it's pretty obvious why a guild with a lot of vets would do well. When you have members who are more focused on the success of the team versus the size of their ?p?en then you have better cohesion and less drama.

It also explains why guilds like PRX who operate with a military style command and control structure are so successful.

JollyQ (east) only got one, but they got the first one. It was a clusterfuck, we held the mines against all parties, got enough for two, claimed the first. kept fighting. Guild leader ninja made a pack and brought it to the coast in secret, then everybody rushed to escort. Got THAT one down, went to the next, and then consortium stole someone else pack. uchina killed them, and we killed uchina, grabbed the pack and set it down for 3rd castle.

You all know castle sieges are awful, right ?
Will be interesting to see how things work out. Will guilds just buy their own scroll while they swim in tax money or will they let people buy it and try to siege. Especially given rampant RMT that runs in this game.

So last night, the pre-eminent shit stain of Ezi was approaching the lodestone with his pack and ended up ahead of his trailing zerg; ended up getting dismantled in a few seconds only to have the enemy take the pack and subsequently the castle just a few moments later. Pretty sure the entirety of East had a good long laugh as soon as that was called out.

If things like this are true:
We figured something was up when TWO claimed first castle. Already knew that Sorcerer was playing credit card hero on the AH.
...then not really.

If the scrolls are something you can buy with gold, I'd imagine people would break out the credit cards (or donations) in order to buy up their own stuff, depending on price. Push/shove they can use that same real money to buy items for guilds to help as mercenaries. Say, you bring your guild to help defend, we'll pay you in X items or APEX. Given a six week window, that's pretty reasonable for whales.

On second thought, maybe that would be interesting...

We did that, pack was stolen from one guild, stole again by some reds, we killed the reds, got a third castle. Basically changed hands 4 times and we turned it in.

From what I remember in alpha, so unless they change it, the siege scrolls are just auctioned via in-game gold. So whoever pays the most gets to siege(or guilds buy their own to prevent sieges).

I imagine siege weekends are really good business for XL/Trion. The influx of $ every time they happen has to be great for them.

How often do the scrolls show up on the AH? Paying gold to prevent sieges must be the Korean version of cockblocking.

Looking forward to seeing the next castle report in 3 weeks (if PRX doesn't roll alts and challenges their own castle to dip out of a fight)

I just can't fathom why they would release them so early.
They're doing it to keep the casual playerbase subscribed. The hardcore players decked out in Delph with Devine weapons are going to rage about it, but they won't quit. For anyone not in a top guild on their server, the luster of the game is fading fast.

Well seeing a screenshot of the GL of TWO with almost 90k gold(and people later in thread saying that is his personal gold, the guild has a lot more) I can expect them to buy their own scroll or other guilds like that to do it. Who wants to spend some obscene amount of gold to for a "Chance" to kill a castle.

I guess that's what seems ridiculous to me, that you actually have to spend gold for 'permission' to assault a castle. It's still 'gated' PvP, only the difference here is you are spending gold on an item to do a siege versus entering some battleground.

Must be a Korean thing. I think they don't mind it as much.

I remember playing Perfect World (the game) when was in beta on a Malaysian server I think years ago. The guilds there had the same type of mechanism; land or an area would go up for auction. The guilds with the highest amount of money would 'win' it, then in a few weeks the land would become available to attacking. The highest bidding guild was the only one able to attack that area and if the guild was good enough, no one wasted their money (even if you didn't attack, you didn't get your money back).

The really odd thing was say you were Guild A holding Territory A. Guilds B-Z could bid to fight you. You had several options:
- Defend
- Abandon
- Bid yourself on a totally new piece of territory that may have come open from a weaker guild.

So in essence, it remained very fluid since if Guild B (who was better than yours but poor at the time) now was going to kick your ass, Guild A could just leave their land, and go fight someone else and take theirs.

So on Kyrios The White Order got a keep and put up their walls only to later not like the color and the GM got all members to hit the wall so it'd break down so they could put up another. Pay2Win is how TWO has been doing shit and they WILL buy their scrolls.

Most of the west was feeding DA/GB pebbles since nobody on the west can stand TWO.
