So I'm at level 18 right now, on the Aranzeb server, West. I kind of wanted to get a feel for how this plays with some of the RR folks, and curious where everyone is at. Especially since these characters should be throughout the rest of beta.

On an unrelated note, are melee pretty much ass in PVP? I'm a shadowblade at the moment and like it for PVE, but the focus of this game seems to be PVP, and I want to level up with something that'll be useful in PVP so I'm not trying to learn how to use a new type of character.

All the types of classes have a place and excel. I've done Melee (blighter type), Archer (primevil and swapped occult to try the knock back and melee shield) and some reaper (caster).

My biggest beef with melee is ship combat fucking blows. It blows for many of the single target classes because LOS is completely broken on ships.

Otherwise they can be beast just like any other class given certain conditions.

Any class can gank. You aren't likely to find <m>any "fair" fights in this game and there are so many variations of different builds that truly are viable its mind numbing. I really wouldn't stress much on 1v1 because it will be pretty rare and frankly unless you suck or get completely out geared there is little reason you should lose if you open on someone. The only exception to that is if you find a heavy CC class and you lack any type of anti CC. If that is the case then gg if they are well played.

I've gone back and forth a hundred+ times on different builds and I am no closer in deciding what I will play at release. Many of the people that think they know will likely re roll and have alternate builds down the road. There is so much variety and so much of it is viable its pretty awesome.

Been playing Archer/Shadowplay/Battlerage up to lvl15, and its been alright. Yet now I seem to run out of mana after a few fights. Is there a class combo that has really good mana regen?

Auramancy gets meditate at like level 30, on a 2 min CD. Songcraft used to have a health/mana regen song, but they nerfed the mana part right out of it.

Get some food / pots.

Some classes get passives as well to increase tick regen which help. Occult has one IIRC. As mentioned above Auromancy has a regen as well but food and pots help a lot.

Haven't followed this game at all but I just spent a couple hours watching various YouTubes and it looks like it could be a sweet game to fulfill the MMO itch. There a NA release date yet?

How viable would a character with something like Songcraft/Witchcraft/Vitalism be?

Oh, also: What are we looking at PC specs wise? My GPU is just a GTX 580, CPU a slightly OC'd i7-2600k, 8gigs of ram and game would be on a new SSD (Samsung 840 EVO). How well would I realistically run this game on medium to high settings?

Hm, should be ok. I run a 560ti, i5-3750, 8gig ram, game is installed on a Raptor, and everything is max'd. Runs great, though DX9 gave me texture issues. DX11 has been fine.

No clue on what is a good class combo, other than Archery/Shadowplay have nice synergy due to Bloodthrist.

I wish there was a point in beta that they let you jus start out at 50 any trees etc so you can really get a feel for all the classes, I leveld up 2 50s in alpha hybrid and a ranged dps, I would love to see how Templar plays out as a healer, as well as hierophant also would love to see what some of the mage classes play like daggerspells etc, even if it was its own separate server solely for letting people test out lvl 50 specs, im dreaming I know.

I've had this issue a bit on my Paladin, I just lasso the boat driver into the water and resume the ass beat.

I haven't nailed down a specific skillset but I'm hoping to make a build I can glide onto a totally packed warship and pop some kind of AE friendly immunity/buffs and an AE debuff/CC and have the rest of my team land and drop AE spells. Then move deliberately on the ship and clear it.

You're looking at a Auramancy/Vitalism style for the ae buff/ae spell defense style stuff.

Also AE stealth is sort of a thing (vit)

I gotta hop back into AA and get a feel for it again however, so I'm speaking from a pre-patch perspective until then.

The AE knockback and lockout ring in the defense tree looks like shinanigans on a warship, especially if the ring stays in one spot while the boat moves, could practically rip an entire group off the boat. Unless the interaction breaks on the boat.

edit: Probably worth looking into the Defense tree for the immunity cooldown for the initiate as well.

edit 2: Probably should just play a Paladin (Brage, Def, Vit) Put points into lasso (brage) to death grip nerds, then a ton into vit/def for spDef aura and hots and stuff to pre-stack on dudes.

Yeah that's what I'm thinking too. I probably won't start nailing things down until a few weeks before release, and in the end I'll probably choose a leveling/farming spec anyway and switch to my PVP spec 2+ weeks after release. This game more than any other I've played has so much importance on the early game it's sick. I think the game would be much better if they placed serious time lockouts on territory claiming.

Gdmnit Tuco, now I've got the itch.

Gonna have to optimize early game land grab and group transport stuff. I'll do some write ups on it this week most likely.

I had it timed to 10 minutes for a group of 5 to grab ideal capitol city trade route land on the coast.

I agree on the lockout timer though. Either that or gate land ownership by large amounts of gold to acquire plots.

I played the game for the first time over the weekend and I really liked it. I enjoyed the questing a lot more than WS (I'm a quester) and I like the combos you can do with your classes. I played a Demonologist and a Darkrunner to 20+ and I liked playing the Darkrunner more. The skills seemed to work night together and was a lot of fun. Overall I'm looking forward to release.

As with most of the recently developed games, the lemons are really in the end-game meta. I see a lot of these types of responses from the CB weekend sneak-peak. AA still has a ways to go to break the mold, it also has a looming fate of doom if it doesn't. (As seen in the asian lack of interest in the game over seas)

I'm sure we're all hoping Trion doesn't stank this up.
