Is pirate life even sustainable? I could see a pirate life , if its a real possibility, being kind of fun.

So do you guys think the land rush will be that overwhelming; where you won't be able to get any land? Or are you just talking about playing in beta because the "choice" spots of land will be taken.

you wont be able to find land anywhere within a day or two of early access launch.

Meh, Im not particularly interested in the farmville aspect of the game, but it would suck when I couldnt find a spot later into the game. I hope they can find a solution for it. Anyway, looking forward to open-PvP. Time to gank and get ganked!

I can understand thinking that at such a low level, but it's 100% false. AA is just as grindy if not more so than any other game especially Wildstar. You are required to over achieve on every single quest. If you do not, you will be in the same position that I was, grinding out the last level or so purely on the 100+ kill quests that give you honor points. At least in Wildstar (again, they both suck in the leveling department) you can skip those bullshit quests and still have way more than needed to go from area to area without having to grind levels.

Both are great games, but my god, why do game devs think players like these kinds of leveling experiences? At this point just give us camps and double the respawn / xp gained and let us group and grind, it's so much more enjoyable than solo grinding in the form of lame as fetch quests.
You're out of your mind. First of all, you must have done absolutely nothing but quest, since pretty much every action you take in the game gives xp. You take a breath, you gain 100xp! I left my main at 44 while leveling some alts and focusing on building ships and stuff. He made the next 5 levels tending my farms and shit. When I got back to leveling him, he needed like 90k for 50. I harvested my 3 yata pens for 26k xp each. 15-20 minutes later, ding, 50. Also, you make it sound like overachieving is some big deal. It's not. I think the longest are like, kill 22 mobs instead of 15. Oooh, what a grind. And the quest are so fast. Questgiver tells you to walk 10 feet away and kill a few mobs. Bam, done. The only pain in the ass thing about leveling is the pants on head retarded mana regen now.

If you are just looking to hit max level and pvp, this is probably not the game for you. If you actually do even a fraction of all the other shit there is to do, leveling (which is already fast) goes by before you know it. Don't get me wrong, there are some grinds in this game. It's just that questing to 50 isn't one of them.

The best system I could think of to curb property being permanently held is to have a system to auction property, then base weekly taxes around that number. Tweak the global tax rate based on the property turnover rate and boom, you've fixed the problem.
Property tax can no longer be paid with gold. Tax certs only, which merely cost labor. Which you generate even if you don't log in. And both tax certs and labor pots can be purchased in the cash shop.

I don't get why you guys are thinking the land availability is going to be like it is in Alpha. You need to take into consideration the fact that not only will there be more servers at launch, but there will be separate servers in Amsterdam for the EU crowd. Add that to the fact that everyone on Alpha and Omega are Patrons. The chance of having even half the pop of a launch server be subscribers is pretty fucking slim. Sure, some choice locations will be snapped up quick, and yeah, some real estate tycoons will try to reserve as much space as they can, but it's not going to be anything close to how it is on the alpha servers right now.

There is still tons of land available on omega for houses and farms, not in the love zones though but a lot of the pvp zones are barely used right now in the east though. Also most of the land for medium and larger houses is unused.

The initial rush will take the land in the over zones and some of the pvp zones like ynestere but rest will be available for a few weeks I think.

The one thing that is really going to affect land ownership once the game launches is building appraisals. A cash shop item that lets you sell your land, either openly, or to a specific player. So, you will be able to make a character, get his large farm, place/build it, then sell it to your main for 1g. Delete, repeat. Before this, while you could place as many houses as you wanted (or could find space for) you were limited to 1 large and 1 small farm per character. Now, you will have no limit afaik. This opens the possibility of someone willing to spend a good bit of cash owning a fuckload of farms. There may be some hidden restrictions on doing this, like a max limit of land owned, or some shit. But, I haven't heard anything like that yet.

How much "land" do you get when you claim some? Are the claimable lands in various sizes? What can you build on the land? Can stuff on your own land be stolen by other people in your own faction? Basically, if you claim some land, can you build a house and have a farm large enough to make some profit?

It varies. Yes. Farms of two different sizes, houses of various sizes, huge manors, etc. The item you use to claim the land decides how much you are claiming and what specifically is going to be built there. No. Yeah, that's kinda the point. This isn't player housing that you just decorate for shits and giggles.

ArcheAge | ArcheAge Feature Guide: Housing and Farms |

There are two sizes of farm: 8?8 meters and 16?16 meters.

houses:
. Small: 16?16 meters
. Farmhouse: 24?24 meters (a small house on a medium plot of land)
. Medium: 24?24 meters
. Large: 28?28 meters
. Mansion: 44?44 meters

stuff on your land can't be stolen by anyone. Yes you can have a profitable farm very easy. Homes aren't generally built to be profitable (It's not like you can set up an cotton farm and then an automated textile mill in a house.)

You claim land by placing Deeds in designated housing areas (outlined by a sort of picketed fence when you toggle your deed placement)

At first you start out by doing a quick quest for a "Small Farm" you can do a subsequent albeit much more involved quest for a larger farm deed. Houses and Aqua/Small/Large farms all have designated areas for placement. For instance the immediate noob field farm area only fits small farms AFAIK. PVP areas fit most everything, aside from aqua farms which need to go in designated water areas.

Castle building stuff is a seperate topic and designated to the northern island.

Claiming land at the beginning of the release is important mainly for real-estate values and trade route conveinience (each area requires different materials for their trade packs, some of which are easier to farm or cheaper to buy than others) you can store trade packs on any of your plots. It's a common tactic in pvp zones to store trade packs on plots until peace time or until you feel it's safe enough to slog your way out of your trade-pack location.

Commonly most high value land is associated with a body of water, this is because it's much easier to load boats up with packs and keep them safe. Especially if you're running in a smaller group. It's never advised to leave packs out in the open or a boat unmanned for very long or at all as people can steal them without much consequence. (Boats will eventually return to your ownership, packs will not)

Making money on small/large/aqua farms is pretty much a guarantee, especially if you're growing and selling wood early on in a servers life cycle.

PS: Working on an article that will outline all of these aspects in finer detail this week, keep your eyes peeled.

You can grow items on the protected land around a farm house and make it profitable that way.

A beach house also has an aquafarm plot infront of it IIRC

I think I am going to pass on the regular house and just go for a beach house. Though iirc they are like 500 stars.
