Considering 2 of those games are all but extinct and the third only attracts a very specific audience. Currently most PVP enthusiast seem to play mobas or FPS games for their fix.

Also you can pvp without ever farming, just need either very generous friends or find another way to make money and buy gear/consumables.

With my interest in wildstar waning, I'm trying to get interested in this game (especially in light of the dearth of titles to be released in the near future). My largest hang-up is the lackluster looking combat and lack of tiny, cute races; although, the incentivized world pvp is rather enticing. I'd be oddly content with a game that combines the antiquated systems of UO with modern graphics.

Are the level 55 skills live on the foreign servers? And if so is any info available on them?

I'm still trying to plan out what I'm going to do with the headstart time. Since I don't have a group to roll with at launch, I'm thinking questing to 15 for gilda stars to place the a house would be step one. It puts me behind on the trade pack quest, but I think I can setup a small farm after that and work on it a little while I'm gathering materials to complete a house. The only other course of action I considered was going for the dry dock and a ship first, but I think I don't want to miss out on the initial land grab. For those that are playing with groups I do envy the amount of coordination that could occur with labor- especially in terms of processing materials and building.

I'm contemplating do I go for a farmhouse first, instead of a regular house but most likely lose the prime spots? Or do I rush house, plant it for land and save another 50 stars for farm house later? Could probably get away with the farmhouse first, if you have 1 or 2 people who don't care for a house, still plant one to save land for you and you pay em back later.

Do I make a alt and get him his large farm also?

Seems most are rushing house just to mark a spot for their large farm later. The story quest gives 60 stars I think(or close to that because the rez priestess gives single star quests a few times). Also if you do the dungeon 3 times you get 3 stars iirc.

Also depends what I am told to do from guild :p

I would probably get a second large farm on an alt before I started to lvl my main, possibly 3, idk if its going to be anything like alpha because of non patron status not being able to own land and there being multiple servers but, if its anything like it is now once the land is taken, its taken for good and when something does come up for demo your not the only one who knows theres usually 10-15 people there trying to place as well, I think people are underestimating how valuable land is in this game, but I could be over valuing it because of how scarce it is on alpha, and im not sure how you would really make money without a farm since the patch grinding mobs isn't viable at all, unless its in the library and that wont be there on release.

I'm curious to how they'll handle the headstart.

If they go with few servers that fill up during headstart with nothing but patrons that will be a big problem for people joining later on those servers, even a problem for some of the patrons. Might end up being easier to get land on a new server after headstart on server full of F2P accounts.

Or will they open 2-3 times the require number of servers for the headstart so they're not full on day 1 of release, and let them fill with half patron half F2P.

I'm off the day it comes out whenever that is so land grab should not be a problem, but still would sux if they end up with a few servers full of patrons while others are full of F2P, I hope they aim for balance population.

Ya, I'm torn between land grab or rushing to get my clipper to make cross-sea trading easier. Clipper costs 50 gilda, though.

Well the only good thing I'd say is they should have exact number of patron players. So there's zero excuse for them not provide enough servers that players can spread out and not have the current problem of Alpha, where every piece of land is gone.

Even then, they could provide the servers and the population still decides to all jump on 2-3 servers leaving the rest barren until it launches. They could also go super conservative route and lock the headstart servers @ a certain number(tell the players before hand) to make sure players spread out, but gamers do not like that and would rather all crowd into a couple then whine about no land or queues.

It will be interesting to see.

@ tecknoe Yeah. I am not a alt person at all(5+ years in EQ and no alt, and 5+ years in WoW with only a crafting alt) but I have been talking myself into doing one for this game just to get at least one extra large farm. Maybe try to sneak in some wild farms for some of the odd stuff(not banana trees). Not sure if there is a level req for large farm, I know you have to be 10 to get small farm, so curious if I can just get 10, and then do the trades until a large farm.

Solo? I know guilds will have specific people who are just going to get a clipper(usually someone who doesn't want a house and with good availability). 50 stars shouldn't take long, if in a group and rushing story quest asap.

Also the $150 pack people might get lucky and get gilda stars from the daru chest they get right away. Could really help speed things up for some. I would love if I got some and make the dash to a farm house a lot faster(plans anyhow, getting the materials is going to suck).

At the moment I am...RR guilds tend to be fickle as hell and I don't have a pre-existing guild organization to fall back on in this game. Not sure what I want to focus on in terms of crafting...machines seems cool because of the vehicles, although that is another gilda heavy line of crafting, which is why I wasn't sure if I should rush Clipper. If I had my own fast boat, it would be easier to do Freedom Isle trades during non-peak (aka, less pirate happy) hours.

Yeah. At least with a clipper goal its not really a rush, like the land grab.

The only ones probably rushing a clipper asap will be those for guilds/groups to get large farm turn ins done after the first 24 hours. Get those asap and before the docks/sea around the turn ins become infested.

Worst part will be my alt and trying to get him close just to finish the quest, could give a damn bout the star for him. Definitely shadowplay and maybe drop 300 yards out and just swim from a odd angle.

I figure pirating won't become as big until people start to get comfortable. I figure you will probably have a week of relatively low pirating, then it will begin to rapidly increase.

People on the Alpha forums seem to think that head start will be better for land than what we have now. I think they are in for a rude awakening. The head start servers are going to be 100% patron, everyone from alpha combined with everyone from beta. It's going to be a mad dash for land. I had planned to do the rush with my guild and have everything squared away in the first few days, but I really don't like my guild and am seriously considering waiting until after head start to jump on a new server. The problem with that, though, is that any server not open in head start will probably suck a month or two into the game.

Why you can only hope there is enough servers to spread out and that players actually spread out(laughable I know) or trion forces them too.

Out on the sea pirating maybe. But sitting on the dock or just off the dock waiting for people to come in with their packs? That will be happening the 2nd day(when people start to make that run at the earliest). I can also see people sitting on freedich pretty early hoping to get people who think its "safe" for the first week :p

totally worth it cinge, you don't need to level the thing at all just get the quest done, that's the best part im the same as you im not an ALT person but for this its a little essential plus its painless for the amount you gain.
