Mages do significantly more burst damage than archers, but archers have a better sustained DPS (not sure if that matters in PVP as much). That said, archers have better range than mages, which is why lots of people recommend them for naval PVP. Mages are going to have a harder time getting close enough to blast people on other ships.
Also, regarding doing the gilda quests, there should be a thread in the Archeage Information section regarding that. There are, I believe, 3 guides (one for each faction, and one I did where you do the small farm before placing). It's something like a 9 page thread though, so lots of info.

only thing that will make this game last at least 3 months for me, already grinded my balls off solo so.

From my limited experience it seems like for ship pvp a lot of organized groups charge and drop on the ship they're going after. Is that not the case?

I wasn't too keen on going East myself. However, after playing a cat during test it grew on me pretty quick. Those Firran in plate or even cloth look pretty badass. The zones are also on-par if not better than the beauty of the Western continent. It's no wonder the game is near 50/50 split on population balance for Nuian & Harani or however you spell it.
Bros, can I uninstall the client I used for beta and reinstall it on my ssd in this lull between beta and head start? I need those faster load times but don't want to spend the first couple hours of release downloading.

I installed yesterday just fine, even though the open beta was over. So I assume the bits are still there to download.
However, it did suggest I install it to a "\Beta" folder, so I don't know if they're going to require everyone to reinstall or redownload things anyways. I kinda doubt it.

I actually just did that swap. When I deleted the beta client it disappeared from my list of games, but I was able to reinstall by visiting the store in the glyph client and hitting the 'play' button on that page. It is downloading right now.

better racials, better continent, better quests, we had more experience in alpha on east. Also our allies wanted to go east. Personally I would've been happier either way. I like the look of the Firran
because they're the ugly barbarian race.

Don't try to build some edgy myth there, Firrans are furries plain and simple, if you're rolling a Firran you're no better than those people going at DragonCons yiffing everywhere, drinking milk and licking their costume cardboard paws. In Archeage you'll be frowned upon at best, and you'll get a lot of people mocking you or spamming "meow ! meow ! meow ? meow meow !!" in chat whenever they see you using your sprint and running like a fucking stray cat. If your soul has still some good in it, after rolling a Furry you will also never get comfortable playing your character, its animations will make you think all the time about the basketball scene in Catwoman movie and the tail and whiskers will be your daily remember you're basically playing Naruto.
