Well beat the helicopter finally, did a few missions , and realized I cannot play this game. Too many meds/age/lack of twitch all I'm doing is getting my ass kicked as I cannot keep up with what is going on. Not a put down on the game, more on me. I knew I sucked at these type games, that's why I bought this on sale. On well. It sure looked amazing on my new gaming rig!
Hands off right stick once close enough for a lock! I beat the game twice before I realized this, the aim chip does all the work. Allowing you to focus on dodge and fire timing.

Hell my problem is by the time I figure out what is shooting me I'm dead. It's all good I'll pick it.up when I'm completely done with my medical shit.

It's not AC4 speed, it's a lot slower than most other AC games. It never felt like a twitch reaction game to me. You can make an AC that has a ton of armor to just soak hits if you need to as well.

I am shit at twitchy games and toughed this out and it's really fucking fun when you finally overcome a boss you've been working on for hours. If you do find the core gameplay enjoyable, I would tinker in the garage for a while. Part of the fun is finding the right build that works for both your playstyle and the mission.

I heard Armored Core 4 is the best of the main series - or maybe it's For Answer IDK - and I've had it on my shelf for a while now. Gave it a spin this evening and it seems pretty amazing, especially the soundtrack. You can really tell it's from the Demon Souls era.

Got a weird question though: Can you not fly by default in AC4? In AC1 you could fly by default. Don't remember AC6 at the beginning. Been pressing all kinds of button combinations trying to fly, and instead I'm just dashing/boosting forward. Maybe the starting AC configuration doesn't have flight yet?

I ask because I also tried to play Terminator Salvation earlier while I had the PS3 plugged in, and some buttons didn't seem to work at all in that game, so not sure if the PS3 is bugging out or what.

If AC4 is a game where you have to build up to flight via upgrades, then cool, but just making sure it isn't some sort of glitch. I checked the control layout and there's nothing about flying, just "Boost" (which again only makes me boost forward, not straight up like it would in AC1).

This was the answer that Google AI gave me when I asked the question: "Can you fly by default in Armored Core 4?"

No, you cannot fly by default in Armored Core 4; you need to equip your AC with specific parts, like boosters and engines, to gain the ability to fly or perform aerial maneuvers.

Here's a more detailed explanation:

  • Default Movement:
In Armored Core 4, your AC moves primarily on the ground, using standard movement controls for walking, running, and dodging.
  • Specialized Parts:
To gain flight capabilities, you'll need to equip your AC with parts that provide thrust and maneuverability in the air.
  • Boosters and Engines:
Boosters are essential for providing the necessary thrust to lift off and stay airborne, while engines determine the AC's speed and maneuverability in flight.
  • Customization:
The game allows for extensive customization, so you can choose the type of flight parts that best suit your playstyle and mission requirements.
  • Missions:
Some missions might require or encourage aerial combat, so you'll need to tailor your AC's parts accordingly.

Huh, AI is getting pretty good. I generally just ignore it when doing searches, probably time to stop doing that.

I do think my PS3 is having issues recognizing button inputs (anybody ever heard of that?) but as far as AC4 goes I might be able to figure it out via ingame mech configuration.

Using a PS5 controller on PS3 and all the search results are about PS3 controllers having issues. I know this controller has zero issues, so it's like the PS3 has issues with specific games. Ironically, Armored Core 1 didn't have any music when I played the PS1 disc version on my PS3. Weird, eh? My PS3 has always had some bizarre quirks that I can't explain. Looking forward to playing AC1 again (digital this time) with actual music, which is the strongest point of the game...
