I'm not seeing much reason to switch from Magic the Gathering: Arena. And that's even with me wanting to be excited.

Hard to say how much deck building will cost until the market opens, but it is worth noting that packs contain 12 cards as opposed to say HS with 5. Also, if you don't find value in the market, cards can be dusted to purchase event tickets which can win you packs (need 4 wins in draft though so ymmv).

What is deck size in Artifact? Pretty sure a stream I was watching guy playing had 60 cards in his.

Well this is super encouraging to hear.

Bought 25 packs and pulled the most valuable item in my first open (Horn of the Alpha). Kripp was complaining that he didn't get one after spending $500 (lul) so thats cool I guess, no luck on any of the key rare heros though.

Gonna dick around in constructed today and see if I can build a decent deck around that Horn.

It is certainly a big thing missing in Magic Arena. Regretfully it also souinds as if that will not be fixed anytime soon in Magic either. I will certainly give this game a try once it goes live. If I like it, then more money will be spent. I will be curious to see if it gets more support for adding content, fixing bugs and adding flavor(Alt Art Cards and different dragons) then what HS and Magic have shown.

Any THOTs playing this?

This game looks like an abortion clinic.

I do have to hand it to them for going against every tenant of modern game design and just making a gigantic clusterfuck.

Keyforge and Artifact (which are both Garfield designed) are each just fascinating to watch enter the market. They've both made some pretty fucking amazing decisions and I can't wait to see how they turn out in the end.

Put 49 hours in since the 19th and I am still loving this shit. Anyone coming into this game blind is gonna probably have a hard time and would likely get turned off initially which is an obvious issue, especially without a free trial. Same goes for watching streams, some mechanics can seem daunting at first glance. I myself have extremely limited ccg experience, but have been holding my own for the most part. Definitely win more than I lose, but not by much. Matches can take a while which won't appeal to everybody, but from my experience almost all my games come right down to the wire making for some pretty tense moments and super gratifying wins.

How long does an average game take? For all of it's warts one of the more positive aspects of Hearthstone is that usually games average 10 minutes which lends well to mobile.

I was watching Savjz stream last night trying to learn this shit and his games were taking 20-30 minutes it seemed. It's insane. That's what's pushing me away honestly.

I imagine some of the time revolves around learning the game. It is more complicated but as you get more experienced, the plays probably get faster. Was part of the time on the stream used for explaining everything out? If the person was explaining the reasoning behind every play along with all of the possibilities. then the game is going to take longer.

I do not mind a game taking a while as long as it is engaging.

Modern games should have a spectator HUD for streamers/viewers.

Spectator HUD in these games for example. should pop up the cards, in large readable format for streams. the player not seeing that, because it would be intrusive.
Hell, maybe even go as far as out putting info, that can be read by an APP, and give even more info. play by play. etc. like hearthstone replay, but live. (is that already a thing?)

On average I would say 20-30 minutes is fair. I've had a few take longer tbh, depends on which decks are being played. Control mirror matches specifically drag on. I am also sure people being new contributes slightly, I personally tend to over think alot of my moves particularly in draft as I learn the cards.

To be fair Savjz was explaining a lot of what he was doing which I'm sure caused the games to drag on. Still seemed to take forever.

Games seem to take a fair amount of time but they're also pretty interesting, so balances out I guess. But yeah if you were playing aggro zoo/pirates/whatever in HS and wanted the 5mins win or concede games, there's definitely nothing that fast in this as far as I could tell. Most games play more like control vs control matchups, which some people like and some people don't.

Value wise, it seems it's not too expensive with the prices crashing in a few hours after the release already. People said it went from 500 to 300$ for a full collection, and might go down further as people actually receive their packs(seems a lot of people have bugs where they don't get their packs right away). Ultimately though it seems a lot of pros are shunning constructed because it's "boring" and too easy to optimize and are banking on drafting, so the price of a collection probably doesn't matter all that much if people end up doing drafts constantly. It's a good thing they added free drafts.

I'm absolutely loving it so far. It's the DOTA 2 of card games, it's difficult and time consuming, and has a ton of decision making which makes outplaying opponents feel amazing and losing not feeling too bad.

If you're after a casual card game, play hearthstone, this isn't for people who want fast and simple matches whilst waiting on a bus.

Loving it so far, just like I assumed I would, but it is way more intense then just watching it. Most draft games I've played so far are really close. Definitely longer than Hearthstone, but not overly long. If I had to guess my games took 20 mins on average.
