The RNG for hits is pretty much like tabletop, most of the mechanics have the same feel

All the mechanics for combat from tabletop, you will see it is real similar.

CBT Tables

I played the same Mechwarrior for 2 years in a Battletech campaign. I managed to save up enough money on the character and had gotten a brand new Victor. On my first combat drop with it I get headshot and killed by a PPC in the first round of combat. :mad:

I've been doing main missions when I want expensive Argo upgrades for that reason. Even merc missions have some pretty good boosts from optional objectives. I had an escort mission where you had to protect a VIP in one of four APCs. After going 4/X salvage the mission payout was 67k. However I had optionals for making sure all APCs survived, wiping out the enemy and wiping out their reinforcements. Completing all those boosted my money payout to 250k I salvaged two mechs off the mission as well. So I ended up making 1mil Cbills off of the mission before I sold off the basic weapons and heatsinks. The max money payout for that mission was like 700k.

edit:
@OneofOne on that mission I just rushed a medium mech to kill the two trucks while I had my other three mechs hump the hill at the southern central portion. Used the medium to just sprint around distracting two enemy mechs while the rest of them tried to come around the hill getting alpha striked one by one.
Mmm, but what would the payout have been with all those bonuses applied to the starting 700k? I'm not convinced max salvage IS in fact more money if money is what you need, especially if a mission is likely to have bonus objectives.

How does a PPC one-shot you? They do 10 damage and the head has 9 armor and 3 structure. One PPC to the head leaves you at 2 structure left and a wound on your pilot...

No, you would get the bonuses for max money too. Thing is that the salvage slider just doesn't effect how much you can chose but the total amount. So your average mission would look like; average pay with 2/7 salvage. Maxed would be whatever pay plus 3/12. Assuming rng doesn't fuck you with 82 heatsinks selling the excess weaponry/mods will more then make up that cash difference. You're also hedging your bets with max salvage that a valuable mech you actually want will appear. If you go for the 2/8 or 1/6 whatever for max pay then you miss out on getting that mech and you may not see the same variant for however many missions. It just seems more sensible from a money and salvage perspective to go max salvage unless you are literally about to go bankrupt after the mission you are doing.

edit:

I don't know the exact dice but in both the game and table top you can crit or be crit to the head and get one shot if the stars align.

If you have to, just GTFO

Yeah I think that's what a lot of people don't understand. Some missions you are supposed to just nope the hell out of there when you see how much opposition is stacked up.

Anyway I'd love to find the retarded faggot who decided the shuttle should randomly destroy mechs when it lands even though it doesn't project a danger warning down below. Have to run a whole goddamn story mission over again, which can wait til tomorrow because I've had as much as I can take of the terrible game performance for one day. Love the setting but this game leaves a lot to be desired.

That sucks about the MW kill. I was in the same length campaign in PDX 1987-89 ish. We had 4 lances of players in mechs plus a player for the dropship and also a squad of flyboy players too.
It was fun, one of the guys worked at GeoHex and we had a terrain set that was 20' x 20' and 2-12 levels deep. You had to have those long wooden sticks to move mechs around like old war movies would move troops.
That was so fun.
Looking back, the GM was certifiably insane, had to be with all the stuff he used to tell us. At least I was not the guy he gave a ride home to after each sunday game.

My bud and I both got killed while walking in a hallway to our mechs by some Capellan Death Commandos with machine guns after we fell out of favor with the GM. Not even a glorious death in Mech battle for us, like dying off screen.

I've loved BattleTech for ages since I got the original Battledroids box set for $2 at Big Lots. (Also got the Battlestar Galactica starship combat game there for $1) That having been said, the whole notion of mechs that walk around on two legs and thus are prone to falling down is just plain silly. Yeah it looks cool as hell and it harkens back to classic mecha manga and anime.... but its just not practical. The vehicles in this version of the game really knock this idea home what with having all the same badass weapons without the whole 'falling down' issue.

Yep. Stability mechanic is pure aids with how much of it LRMs can put out.

The quad leg mechs make more sense than bipedal. Walking does have advantages of being able to climb over terrain that wheeled/tracked vehicles would find impassable but it comes with a lot of disadvantages. A quad or hexa pod legged design though could be very stable.

stability generation needs to be nerfed but you shouldn't passively regain stability, should only clear your stability meter when you entrench.

I am fine with that, but LRMs need to have their stability damage cut in half, if not more.

No kidding. I tried out a new lance last night with:

  • Centurion - 2xSRM6++ and SRM4
  • Trebuchet - 2x LRM15++
  • Trebuchet - 2x LRM15
  • Dragon - AC10+
Came up against my first Thunderbolt on an Assassinate mission. I knocked it down 3 times and it barely got a shot off. Too bad the contract only let me take 2/3 of salvage from it.

How is mech salvage determined? Do you always just get the 1/3rd of a chassis as a salvage item, or is it random how much you can take?

How get Salvage

  • Coring (destroying CT) a mech gives you 1 salvage.
  • Removing both legs gives you 2 salvage.
  • Kiling the Pilot/removing the Mech's head gives you 3 salvage

running this on an I7 7700 with a 1080gtx and SSD, loading times are long and the game stutters

Yep, game runs like shit and takes ages to load.

What are the % it gives you during the called shot dialogue? Is that your chance to hit that specific part only, or is that your hit chance in general? IE, what is the penalty for firing called shots?
