Bumping an old thread. Anyone tried Bafang motors on a bike? Thinking of getting a 750w kit with battery for my bike. The legal bikes in Sweden is only 250w so that's not an option.

Using the bike 5 mins a day for commuting to work and quite a lot more during the summer. My issue is we have such cold winters and wondering if they will hold up being stored outdoors (battery will be taken inside after every bike ride)

Another year, another Mid-South in the books. Honestly, think I'm done racing this thing. The organizers, who I'm certain are only doing this due to insecurities about being in mostly flat Oklahoma, always, without fail throw in about 10-20 miles of literal goat track (so muddy and unkept that even 4x4 jeeps get stuck, regularly) that just destroys any good vibes. Turns the race from something moderately difficult, to something almost impossible to finish except the most fit professional endurance athletes. Anyways, here are pics - I got 60 miles in, at about 6:25 of total time. For reference, I was at 31.6 miles in 1:45. The rest was spent walking and hike-a-biking through literal peanut butter Oklahoma red clay/dirt. The whole thing just destroys your bikes (rear derailleur broke in the mud, again), and your body.

Turns out I'm more of a European bike rider - coffee and pastries.

I'm in the market for a foldable fat tire e-bike to throw in my truck camper when we head into the mountains, just for farting around and ranging out.

Any suggestions?

Just bought an Orbea Rise H15 this weekend. I’ll take some pics of my own some day soon. Got it with this color scheme.

Love it so far — very mild assistance. This isn’t an ebike that does a lot for you without you putting in effort also. It has a detuned Shimano motor where the battery will last way longer than any ride I’m gonna do. About 42 pounds.

I build my own frames, 200mm (8") travel DH bike. This is number 5... before now, some have died and some have just been obsoleted to get too here ..
Chromo frame and swingarm, aluminum dog bones and shock links.

Why you ask!!! Why the fuck not and I can!!!
Also I can't buy what I want that fits my body.

This thread always intimidates me. like 20-24miles on a railtrail is enough for me.

I'm not fit enough to ride that far, I'd also get bored .. I need to ride down steep trails while missing trees and rocks.
Have of the fun for me is the design and building of the bikes, this is the 6th one in 8 years. I reuse the forks, wheels shock and brakes etc on each build. They cost me about $300 in materials each and then $100 for the bearings.

The more you do it the more you can do it, the trick is getting off the couch the rest is easy.
Yep exactly. When I started riding I'd ride 7.5 miles each way to the beach and back again however Long Island is different as the hills here are brutal. Going to the beach is pretty easy since a good amount of it is downhill but man coming home is brutal. At first I could not make it home without having to get off and walk my bike and it wasn't until the very end of that summer in 2019 that I was able to barely make it the entire way without having to get off. Now several years later and I can do it with ease. Newbie gains are massive.

Trick as fuck, how does that pivot point feel on tech? Probably phenomenal on the big stuff. I will give geometry for custom frames like below but you on a whole nother level.

You're going to have to wait if you want a frame, both my kids are getting a mini DH bike too. Started the CAD last night..

My bike, I haven't ridden it yet. It has to come apart for cleaning and painting etc, then it's on.

DH V3.jpeg

This is the last one I built, version 3.
much higher pivot, rear wheel moves backwards 75mm at full travel.. great on techy stuff and super stable landing jumps.
New version has 50mm rearward travel, lighter and easier to build with less parts.
On a 3:20 minute track, I rode my commencal dhv4 and got straight onto the new one.. 8 seconds Faster on the first lap. So good

Anyone have experience with Canyon bikes? It's been nearly 4 years since I've rode regularly and I'm thinking about getting a gravel bike. I'm in a rural part of my state and there's a lot of paved paths, dirt roads and gravel paths within an hour of me, so a gravel bike sounds like a good fit.

I've narrowed it down to the grizl 7 al and the cf grail 8 if a feel like I'll really get back into it.

I'm planning on getting my old commuter Giant escape ready to over to the Razorback Greenway this weekend to see if I still like riding for hours.
