BD will never be liked by hardcore players because of two things :

- its combat gameplay is boring as hell and doesn't offer counters, tactical options, teamplay or support. Learning is basically wait for the game to give you your most powerful skill and spam it ad nauseam. It's a every-weeaboo-for-himself orgy.
- right now in korean OBT PvP (PK) is heavily prevented by a stupid karma system which basically forbids you to kill anyone ever if you don't wanna spend the rest of the week farming thousands of mobs to get your karma back. Casual to the bone.
What's the point of Karma? Is it a currency of type? I mean if need to farm so many mobs to make it back, it has to serve some important aspect?

Or in the case of AA, how about a new server with alternate rules and also without ANYTHING BUT cosmetic crap in the marketplace, AND all the previously game breaking exploits already fixed. That would be a game i'd play and even sub for.
Removing the p2w from the marketplace wouldn't do anything except create a huge market for gold sellers.

I don't know about Lineage2's but Black Desert karma system is the most retarded thing ever, it basically forbids people to PvP by having huge disavantages and penalties for the attacker. You should checkthis postbefore assuming every karma system is the same.

Believe me, there were plenty of red names running around murdering people still. Honor killings were a big deal, someone breaking neut and stabbing someone else to death usually meant something big unless they were a dedicated red already.

It's not a perfect system, but don't lose your shit just yet. It's entirely possible to fuck such a system up by getting the numbers wrong, but with the right balance of karma/regaining karma it leads to some interesting things.

I miss Lineage 2; when pvp (especially folks going red) went down, it was go-time in a way I've yet to encounter in another game since.

I don't remember in L2 having to get the killing blow just had to farm mobs. We also always grouped up to burn off the karma when one of us went red. Yes it was always go time when you saw a geared red. Got 1000 soul shards off one guy it was a speedy leveling till they ran out lol.

I didn't play L2, but people like me and Bondurant effectively want to PVP the entire time we're playing. Having a karma system that punishes us for initiating stymies this. We're not talking about two brothers getting into a fist fight at a wedding and holy shit I can't believe they're fighting. We're talking about a never-ending war between PKs, victims and PKKs. And that's in addition to a decade-long war between the known open-world PvP guilds who just want to log in and fight eachother all night.

In an MMO the downside to initiating on someone should be: 1. Risk losing gold/items if you die, 2. You build up a reputation and the rest of the server kills you. 3. You hurt your guild's reputation and now another guild is going to kill your guild. Often there are so many PKs and not enough PKKs that #2 never happens so I don't mind a karma system where #2 turns into "The game tallies points and the NPCs kill/ignore you", but it has to minor enough that we can still fight each other. #3 is only useful when a guild can actually attack another guild effectively, safe zones and no world assets hurt this.

I liked the way ArcheAge did it, because PKKs like us could kill PKs with abandon and never accrue any negative karma.

The game was less rigid during closed betas, they put these rules to prevent PK because its korean community asked for it. In Black Desert Player Killing isn't hardcore, it's just plain stupid, especially when the game forces you to do long mindless hours of mob bashing to get your karma back because without it you can't do shit. "Here, you killed a player, now it's 1500 boars bash time !"

You're right by saying "it's korean beta they can adjust stuff for West players" but even with the best PK system ever, Black Desert will alway be bad, because its gameplay is lame, gimmicky and caters for xbox skyrim 45yo moms.
