Watched it a week ago and went to rewatch this past weekend.

I talked 3 coworkers into going and seeing it too. We all spent 15 minutes talking about it this morning. Everyone was blown away....loved it.

My friends all enjoyed it, that's how I know they are mostly decent people.
Yeah the daggers are starting to come out now about that specifically.

Some reviewers are openly using the word "misogynistic" to describe the movie.

Should be enough to cut the rest of the legs out of the North American run-- along with its 3 hour runtime.

  • the most lethal replicant was a female
  • the miracle was a female
  • the romance between Gosling and his hologram
  • the police chief who was in a clear position of authority over Gosling and was at one point considering using her authority as the chief and a human to make sexual advances on Gosling
  • The female leader of the resistance
  • the very fact the entire movie's focus is on the ability to birth life, "to be born is to have a soul"

Yeah I only go to a movie if it's at the dolby cinema and if it's a movie I really want to see. What keep me from going more often is the price of food and drinks. Next movie I'll see is star wars and then nothing after that until summer. I think what's wrong with blade runner is that it has a narrow target audience and it's long. This is turning out to being one of my favorite movies of all time but I can see how it will flop. It's too thought provoking for the 18-25 crowd, too long for the 25-45 crowd with families, and then too long for the old folks to sit through. It also doesn't cater to women.

I think I said it in the movie pass thread but i'd pay 100 dollars to watch a new release movie at home all day ery day. Would probably watch more 'new releases' like that than I do now. We probably see 3 movies a year and if I could just watch em at home i'd bet that would be closer to 5 or 6.

This is a core reason that feminists would hate it. Feminism today is just about trying to turn women into men. Anything traditionally feminine is entirely antithetical to this worldview. To insinuate that giving birth is the essential characteristic of femininity or that women's purpose is to give birth to children is heresy.

Movie was great.

If a woman wants to be a man, she can stop complaining and start violently and effectively beating men up, and then I will evaluate her on the same level as a man, which is as a potential threat/competition.

While we're on this, Joe Rogan mentioned the Moab 200, an ultramarthon, get a look this article, and someone explain what exactly went on here:

This is BR2049's specific problem as to why it's not doing better financially. A movie with a 9 figure budget has to hit in all of the quadrants as they say (male and female, over and under 25 in each) in order to do well. It's audience has been heavily weighted into only one of those, males over 25, which pretty much mirrors the original.

Yea but you forgot one critical fact: there are men in this movie.

Obviously someone thought marathons were too interesting and created an event that would bore men to death.

Half way through this film, all I could think about was how this old meme now has a new meaning...

Saw this last night. Fascinating film. Loved it.

I thought the death of Joy the Hologram was great. I actually felt bad there and they captured it perfectly.

About the 3D in this movie, I feel it is one of the very rare case where it makes the movie better instead of making it worse, mainly because it works well with some of the themes of the movie (facticiousness/reality) and it works well with Villeneuve's solemn direction, as 3D reinforces the architectures/spaces of the sets.

The theory is prior to our intelligence (and thus ability to create tools) emerging our evolutionary advantage was sweating. In other words, we would kill animals by running in packs until the animal dies because most animals cannot breath and cool their bodies effectively at the same time. This is why men and women don’t have a large difference in their long distance running capabilities whereas men have massive advantages in all other physical activities.

When that scene was happening I was wracking my brain because I swear I've come across that same or similar concept before and I have no clue where, still haven't thought of it but also haven't Googled it because wtf does that search even look like

I'm not sure I see the analogy there :p

Specifically, a woman or female figure using a proxy to fulfill the physical connection. Actually I just thought of it now, wasn't there almost the same idea in Her (Scarjo AI movie)? That's what I was thinking of

Well, my 21 yr old daughter loved it so I hope that helps. And she dragged her BF to see it. I don't know if he liked it, but it doesn't matter, they got his money. She hasn't enjoyed seeing a movie in a theater for 2 or 3 years now, so that was kind of surprising.

This film is fucking awful. What fuck guys?

Yes the visuals and setting are really great, but everything is so SLOW. That makes key but weird scenes very uncomfortable due to the film lingering on then (anything with bad guy or hologram girlfriend), and some scenes are just drawn out nothing happening.

With a setting like this I want to see a story with some sort of stakes for humanity as a whole, either the replication rebellion or the bad guy being taken down. Not a nothing story about finding someone's dad/daughter.

Harrison Ford and Ryan Gosling can't act.

Because a "manufactured human being" being able to give birth isn't high stakes enough..

You should have been prepared for this.

Director did "Prisoners" and "Sicario". Sicario was criticized (by actual critics not jerking off to the movie) for dead air. Prisoners avoided criticism on the directors style because it fit the movie and built tension. With Sicario, a portion of people just kinda wanted to shut it off before the 3rd act but bit down.

It is the preferred aesthetic of this director, his trademark-- and it sells.
