How would hands off be better for Blizzard? Blizzard needs serious hands on. They've taken advantage of the previous hands off by pissing away all their value from the 2000-2010 era, have lost all their talent, and are reduced to laughing stock.

It would be better for talentless hacks that makes up their current work force I guess, but hands off is bad for the company revenue and bad for the players themselves.
Fair point. Mainly thinking in terms of not making everything p2w. But yeah someone does need to wrangle current fucktards.

$69 billion is colossal, even for MSFT. They could've waited for it to get cheaper but I have a feeling they were more worried about Tencent pouncing.

Only way to explain it is Activision was shopped around and had other suitors.

Ok, so MS takes over AV/B... does this make WoW better or worse? Separate question, does this make Blizzard better or worse? Also, doesn't MS kill off studios once they are integrated (here's looking at you Bungie)? So in 2 years it's going to be Microsoft presents World Of Warcraft?

Won't see any impacts to actual existing game products until 2024-2025.

The team is staying together through 2023. F2P can come a lot sooner though.

I don't know why people think of game studios as entities that can persist without their key developers/designers. Blizzard without Tigole and the old guard is like Journey without Steve Perry. Who gives a shit?
Its like Black sabbath writing an album, being let go by label and then a cover band takes over for their international tour. (black sabbath was the first to pop into my mind)

they need more than hands on, they need beatings at this point

Sure in new games maybe, but they can ramp up the monetization asap. Also Id imagine this would be the time to slice through that gordian knot that is Blizzard culture and unfuck their glacial content release as well.

Starcraft game in the Halo engine when.

Functionally infinite cash in bank if you're not an idiot with your lifestyle, freedom to do as much or as little as you want. That's the way to play it.

But they haven't even had a Moon Expansion!
I think that there is a high chance the next WoW expansion is on the moon.

All the store mount and datamined dragon stuff which is causing people to speculate Dragon Isles is actually all on the Green Dragon side of things, which makes it equally likely it's an Elune expansion.

Combine that with FF14 having just gone to the moon and Blizzard copying things and I think it's happening.

Riot will crush them if they continue their current direction. They understand you play MMOs to play with other people or show off to them. Blizzard's creative leadership wants you to spend 22 days playing a game to inflate the metrics they use to determine success to their bosses

Fixed.

Riot will probably be looking a lot at FF14, not just WoW. 14 is a lot better at catch-up mechanics and providing a good mix of solo and group stuff

Everyone looks at FF14 and WOW but nobody looks at the hidden gems, imo, GW2 and Secret World.

Secret World for its amazing narrative and unique quests (puzzle quests that force you to think)

GW2 for its class design (debatable sure) and exploration. Loved how you could just run around a zone completing things piece meal without having to go to hub, collect all quests, go pick up bear asses, run back to hub, repeat.

GW2 also has the horizontal progression which can be argued for and against, I personally think its headed in the right direction but not totally there.

While I’m enjoying FF14, it takes you out of the gameplay loop the entire time just about. Even SWTOR didn’t do it to this level. I’d rather Riot look at Vanilla through WOTLK WoW instead and borrow a few things.

They need to decide what they are and double down on it.

My favorite two dungeons in MMO history are "The Dead Ends" from FF14 and Blackrock Spire from WoW.

The Dead Ends is a 4 man linear storytelling experience of music, visuals, theming, scripted events and interesting boss mechanics. It leads to a seperate 8 man raid boss after which has incredible looking attacks and music.

Blackrock Spire is non linear maze which contains a 5 man dungeon and 10 man dungeon. There is one cool but buggy scripted sequence otherwise it's fairly standard stuff in an epic setting.

These two things are not compatible and it wrecked WoW to move towards the FF style dungeon.

Both games have more dungeons like that but WoW has it's best dungeons in the original game and FF14 has them in the last two expansions, which is why the hype shifted to FF14.

I'd love to see both in a game, with exploration dungeons AND story dungeons actually.

Microsoft didn't buy Activision for the rapidly failing Blizzard IPs. They bought it for Call of Duty.

Peak facepalm is people think Kotick is going to be tried for war crimes post acquisitions or whatever bullshit larp they have going on in their mind, rather than getting a MASSIVE payout.

Reddit is doing victory laps right now since "KOTICK IS GONE!!"

So we can all agree that the character assassination of Afrasiabi, and others, was just a strategic gambit to put downward pressure on the planned corporate buyout price, right?
