The SVU episode I caught a few months back showed college Bros attempting rapes immediately after hearing a rape joke. And the comic turned out to be a serial rapist.

10/10 episode

Fucking Canada, man Bisi, watch your ass...Your country has gone full fascist(I always thought we'd be first.)

Comedian made this joke.(Boy got to sing for the pope because he was disabled and was going to die, and had a good voice.) In the comedy bit, Ward said at first he was happy Gabriel was getting so much attention following the papal visit. "But now, five years later, and he's still not dead.. Me, I defended him, like an idiot, and he won't die," Ward said.

For that joke he was drug in front of a human rights tribunal. The boy's testimony encapsulates his 'crime'.

Gabriel said Ward went too far in his jokes about him. He said the jokes hurt his confidence and his career and led to intimidation at his school."It was horrible during all those years to endure, to be a teen, to be a successful artist, with all those comments, with all those laughs. So I wanted to say that it's not acceptable for me and for my family. And I think for the entire society too,"Gabriel testified before the tribunal Wednesday afternoon."When we make a joke about someone, about a disabled person, we can laugh, we can make comments, but we always have to do that in full respect."

So if you joke about someone, if they decide it's not respectful, it should be against the law. Also, if you do make a joke, you're responsible for anything other people do, ever.

Canadians do not enjoy freedom of speech in the same way Americans do.

Despite what many Canucks would have you believe, our frozen little legal dictatorship ain't the best place on Earth.

Nah, it's just better than all the other places.

Freedom is the measure of a good society. Americans objectively enjoy more freedom than Canadians. Pretty simple math there.
Remember Tanoomba is ok with taking away freedom to people he thinks are assholes. So he probably doesn't view that in the same way you do.

It's not just him. Most Canadians I've encountered have a real tendency to just defer to authoritarianism. High degrees of trust, coupled with a real need to be 'agreeable'. Canadian 'niceness/politeness' is a real point of pride up here, and what it really is is societal conformity & homogeneity of belief and intellect.

It's pretty fucked up.

Itzena didn't happen by accident. That's the same school system that took wee Itzena and turned her into the Laurie Penny we all know and loathe.
